ISU unranked in AP poll

Which reads like an Iowa fan saying they beat a ranked team because South Dakota State was ranked in the FCS poll when they played them.

You might not be exactly wrong, but in the end does that really matter.
Aside from the fact that it has nothing to do with Iowa and SMU is an FBS not FCS program, spot on post. Lol.

Man the annoying squawk troll in this thread sure loves to argue pointless information.
He's gotten lost it seems. This isn't the ISR.

FACTS: Iowa State is 5-0 and ranked 14th in the AP and 12th in the Coaches Poll.

FACTS: Iowa is 3-2, is not ranked, and hasn't even beaten a ranked team in over 3 years.

FACT: This thread is on an Iowa State board and is not located in the ISR where Hokroaches are allowed to freely troll.

Wonder what CMC has done in this timeframe. And with recruiting classes 20+ ranks behind what PSU is getting annually.
By my count since 2016 inclusive (Campbell's first year, incidentally) we are 14-24 against teams ranked in the AP Top 25 on gameday and 4-6 against teams ranked in the AP Top 10 on gameday.

This. You often hear "AP rankings dont matter, its the playoff committee that matters". Well the selection committee basically just mirrored the AP rankings last year.

Prior to expanding the playoff to 12 teams the committee just didn't put as much weight in the rankings outside the top 10. Was there some positioning to benefit certain teams? Yeah but with the field expanding to 12, the committee will cater the entire top 25 to 2 conferences. They certainly won't "over rank" the Big 12 because they don't want to paint themselves into a corner for the conference to have a shot at picking up quality wins and stealing a bid from a 4 loss SEC team... The most f*cked up thing about it all now is that "quality losses" are carrying more weight than quality wins.

I don’t think the rankings systems are a conspiracy theory but one thing is unarguable: blue bloods have EVERY built in advantage and the non-blue bloods have an uphill battle every step of the way.

Conspiracy theory? No. Hidden agenda's? Absolutely. Look at how the different regional voters cast their votes. The bias is in plain sight. If we were Iowa we would absolutely be getting a B1G bump right now and would be in the top 10. We are +1 in games played on every team in front of us except Ole Miss, Indiana and LSU. That should mean something too. It doesn't help when you see ESPN's dog nuts FPI getting plastered everywhere either.

Well said. It’s also cheaper for ESPN to prop up a G5 Darling from a conference who only makes a fraction of XII money. They get fan appeal for a Cinderella story and a bargain in the media payouts for the conference inventory.

Is it a coincidence that SMU, who takes $0 of ACC money, got in the playoff last year even with head to head loss to BYU who was on the bubble?

Sure we all made nice publicly, but only a few years ago ESPN tried to kill the XII.

With Clemson down this year, we will see if ISU, TT, and TCU are afforded the same benefit as Miami, GT, and FSU when it comes time to seed the CFP.

We're always going to be underdogs in the CFP and the rankings. Few of the voters actually see us play so they're just looking at who won and who lost this week with maybe a cursory look at the stat sheet. There are reasons for ranking the P2 ahead of us: historical success, more highly rated recruiting/transfer classes, bigger athletic budgets, etc. The only way to change the narrative is to win games out of conference. Non-playoff bowl games used to be an opportunity, but they have lost credibility since so many players opt out.

They didn't bother to get our record right (it's 5-0, not 4-0) but appreciate the top billing nonetheless.
For years, CMC got national attention and respect only as a potential head coach at some other school. Slowly, that respect has spread to the PROGRAM he's built at ISU Now if we could just get over that conference championship hurdle.

Nicely said.

Good point, it happened so gradually I didn't fully realize it.
