ISU Student Enrollment

I got out of construction when I was 25. I was constantly injured and my knees/hips/neck/back still give me trouble 20 years later.

Edit: I’ll add that I saw a guy get his pants caught in a PTO and walk away with no injuries. I fell off of 3 sections of scaffolding onto concrete and walked away. I was shocked multiple times. I’m honestly quite lucky to be alive.

I don’t worry about seeing somebody’s legs get ripped off in my office.
I still remember seeing a safety video in a 4-H tractor safety course I took around 10 years old. I wasn't paying too close attention to the video about PTO safety and how never straddle or step over a running PTO UNTIL they said, "and that is his testicles on the tray next to his bed". Talk about straighten up and pay attention quickly!

That's just it. I've got a mobility disorder that would have me on disability and living in poverty if I was in the trades. I can sit in my office, make a good living and work as long as I want to thanks to that 4 year degree....
Same. I had to sell my 2 rentals that I maintained myself 5 years ago and now rely primarily on my office job due to disability. I told my doctor once if I was a career drywaller my career would have ended 5 years ago and now I can still work the same as my co workers.

I think the trades and manual work are great but there is significantly higher risk of not making it to a normal retirement age than an office person. So you need to prepare for that possibility.

no not really...

I have masters and PhD in ag field....

I learned more in 2 years of a masters program (U kentucky) than I did in 4.5 years undergrad at ISU.... Probably more a me (drunk and trying to get laid) than a school thing....

Masters program is lots of advanced agriculture with only a very few general type (english, math etc). its assumed that you have already obtained those skills.

PhD was almost no coursework. (they usually will use the credits from a master's degree to fill PhD program requirements).

I believe I only had to take an additional 10-15 credit hours (PhD). vast majority of time is devoted to research and teaching.
I have a masters in statistics/data science. Zero English classes. All math classes and projects/research. It’s assumed if you’re in the program you know how to write properly. It took me more time because I had worked for a decade before going back to school. Writing for school is different.

There were a couple legislators from Eastern Iowa that were hard chargers on that. One from Iowa City specifically I remember emailing and his responses told me he was 100% looking out for U of Iowa and nothing else.
I did the same in western Iowa and probably got a similar BS response claiming their degrees required more funding. Obviously, a lot of legislatures are lawyers.

Yes, it will even fill out the TPS cover sheet.

Can AI create a DCMA compliant IMS, evaluate and report on EV and deal with engineers that don’t want to bother with any of it

Although I retired 15 years ago, I can still remember many acronyms.
DCMA = Defense Contract Management Administration
EV = Earned Value
IMS = Integrated Master Schedule

I worked with a system called TPS - THE Pricing System, it was replaced by RPS and eventually ProPricer

I chuckle every time someone mentions TPS cover sheets, I actually produced them
