ISU RELEASE: 2026 Cy-Hawk game will kick at 6:30 and be broadcast on NBC

Someone tell me why on earth our games that appear on ESPN+, which ESPN themselves has no control over since Iowa State is the one producing the game, are always in the middle of the day?

Dare I say I miss when our Cyclones.tv FCS games were always night games. You already know half the crowd will still be in the stands by the time the 2nd half rolls around because if we're (hopefully) dominating and it's 90 degrees, everyone will want to head home.

Agreed. Its dumb to not schedule those at night when it would have cooled off, and also gives a great tailgating day.

Can someone explain why EIU is being thought of so highly this year? They lost their QB, their best two OL men, a couple of receivers, their difference making punt and kick returner. On defense they lost most of their front four, and a couple DBs.

So they return their running backs, and LBers, will have to find a QB and neither has proven anything in college, but they are supposed to be a 9 to 10 win team?

I agree. Probably because they only have 3-3.5 games with much difficulty, and they've had a good track record of reloading & being slightly above average. I would love for them to have a 4-5 win season, though.

It's year 1 of a new coach. Yeah we're probably going to get curbstomped, but I'll still watch because at least for now, these are the guys who want to be at Iowa State. Ride or die with these boys.
This year is about establishing an identity and showing potential. I think people will be a lot happier if they go into it with a realistic mindset.

Agree with your first sentence, disagree with the 2nd (at least when replying to someone assuming we'll be 'curbstomped' by anyone). Especially Iowa, who lost nearly as much as we did & has had a terrible offense for the past decade. If THAT is realistic, I'd rather not even follow the team than just accept we stand no chance. I'd rather have a little optimism that we can compete rather than expect blowouts every week.

I was mostly ignoring the curb stomp portion of that post with my thought, though I think it is a stretch to say that Iowa lost nearly as much. They still have the same coaching staff and a lot of players who have been in their system, and we can't say that.

I expect us to be competitive in most games, but I also expect that there will be games where the fact that everyone is learning the system and trying to gel gets exposed a bit.

last time I went to an ISU Howk night game it went pretty well late.

Seneca Wallace led Iowa State University to a legendary 36-31 comeback victory over Iowa on September 14, 2002. Trailing 24-7 at halftime, the Cyclones rattled off 29 unanswered points in Kinnick Stadium, dealing the eventual Orange Bowl-bound Hawkeyes their only regular-season loss.

When I said how bout them hawkeyes at the post game party 65 year old friend of mines dad took a swing missed fell down hit his head on the counter knocked himself out.

I'm going in expecting 4-5 wins and anything on top of that I think will be a good foundation season. More so than W's & L's I'm more interested in seeing this defensive scheme (hopefully it's aggressive) and on offense Roehl keeps talking about "physicality". I want to actually see that on the field and not just hearing that word over and over again every time he talks.
