ISU not on Stokes short list

You guys got one thing right, Iowa got a slim chance, and I can understand that she wants to win a nc. We all knew that she wouldn't choose us, and having big offers from UConn and Tenn really gave us a less chance. I just hope that she didn't take us out of the list because she didn't think we would give her the preparation for perfessional basketball.

Speaking of Greenfield, I assume she has been holding that Iowa State offer for a couple years now, and with her acceptance into Stanford, I'd think its safe to say she now has all the offers she would want, any idea on when a decision may be made?

So Kiah could not start ahead of all that post talent you have? I do not know, just asking. I just do not understand why some one offered by UCONN & Tennessee would not help ISU and losing a talent like that "is really not big of a deal"

I for one would love to have her and I think she would see some action her first year and more her next and start the next. If she wants a championship and does not mind riding the bench she should go to UCONN if she wants to play AND get a chance at a championship, come to ISU

i dont know why ISU had slim chances really considering Fennelly has them competing at a high level pretty consistantly....a player like stokes can help take them to that next level and you would think she would know this as well...

Two things limited our chances: A Hawk father and she is a Linn-Mar basketball player.

"Not a big deal" isn't diminishing her abilities. ISU has apparently never been high on her list and Fennelly has been working on recruiting other good post players. It's not a big deal that it's official since it was already pretty apparent she probably wasn't coming here anyway.

Would she start at ISU as a freshman? Short answer: maybe. If she did, it would likely be a three-post offense with Poppens and Prins, not in place of one of them. They'd both have started just about every game for two seasons at that point, and it's not easy for a freshman to waltz in and displace a two-year starter.

Three of our four post players will be juniors when the 2011 recruits are freshmen. It'd be nice to pick up a good post player for 2011, but if we don't then it's extremely important we pick up a couple for 2012. Throwing freshmen posts into the fire immediately is often a recipe for disaster (last season being a notable exception).

I would call 1999 a very successful season with a freshman in the post who is now our all time leading scorer, rebounder, free throws made, field goal % in history, that season was far from a disaster. 25-8 record, B12 2nd place, B12 tourney runner-up, Elite Eight, beating the # 1 seed to go the Elite Eight.

I would say Angie Welle did quite well just being "thrown into the fire."

Yeah, and like you said she is our all-time leader in a bunch of categories. She was a really special talent, and we were lucky she hit the ground running like that.

In 02-03 we relied on two young posts (Kriener a soph with little experience and Wilkins a RS freshman) and went 12-16 in Fennelly's worst season at ISU by far (and his only losing season as a head coach in his career, I believe). That's really the only season between 1999 and 2010 that we didn't have any real post experience.
