ISU Gambling Megathread

What about point shaving though? You can still bet on yourself to win that way.

Why would you shave points if you bet yourself to win? Or maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying..

If I'm an ISU player & bet ISU to win/cover the spread, I'm trying my hardest the entire game to win/cover the spread.. What am I missing?

Oh I agree both affect the integrity of the game, but I wouldn't be for a lifetime ban if betting on yourself to win. It's not changing your approach or effort or letting your team down.....still deserves a steep punishment but not as bad as tanking...just my 2 cents though.
I think "betting to win" can most certainly change your approach. It can cause you to take risky actions that might ultimately cause your team to lose.

You think the hawkeyes had anyone shaving points last years?
Have no clue, but having a starting WR bet the under in games he was playing in is not a good look at all on multiple levels. 1) He has no faith in the team he plays on. 2) Could be taking plays off and such to affect the score.

Or you might try less hard subconsciously in games you're not betting on yourself to win.

I agree they shouldn’t be gambling on college sports. It’s the ridiculously small amounts that make this seem like a witch hunt. Crazy to lose your eligibility over some $10 bets.

Yep, this most likely means Dekkers has lost his NCAA eligibility, for good. Betting on games of your own team is a line you cannot cross. (I guess you said that already, lol.)

If Dekkers has any college football future left, it’s probably in the NAIA.

CFB players should not be allowed to bet on College football. Period. There are plenty of other things to bet on.

It's crazy to risk your career over it for sure.

I think the NCAA should encourage this information to be looked at in every state for the sake of the integrity of the game. I can’t believe these kids would bet on their own teams.

I’m worried about when the hammer drops on the rest of the players that there might be a surprise or two.

Rick Neuheisel and Dari Nowkhah on Full Ride this morning were all over this info from yesterday. I like both these guys. I'll quote them with a little paraphrasing...."other schools, people, etc learn vicariously through others mistakes, etc." "Iowa State and Iowa are taking the hit because the state of Iowa is investigating this." "There is NO WAY Iowa State and Iowa are the only schools in the country that have this issue, NO WAY." "Other schools saw what the state of Iowa is doing and are scrubbing their athletic programs right now."

They went on to say that all these kids were wrong and deserved punishment, but were almost dumbfounded that this state is the only one with this type of investigation.

First look should be at your OC, he was definitely shaving points last year.
