Maybe dont be so obsessed with people's opinions on Hassell you bring it up in a completely unrelated thread? Weirdly obsessive with this one.People crying about Hassel in the other thread because they don't understand he's in the "entertainment" business and not the "news" or "analysis" business should fire up the Google machine and watch stuff like this instead of turning into Two Guys.
Yeah. Seems like a lot of chalk talk and repetition. And need basketball IQ across the board. I feel like this would be almost impossible to coach this effectively in high school. Maybe some components of it...Love that breakdown
Goes to show you why TJ needs guys here ASAP in the summer. You absolutely need all 5 guys understanding where they need to be at all times
One guy out of position and teams can make those skip passes or backdoor cuts to the offensive player the defense is leaving open
Just my opnion but other teams do try to do some of this, but the effort and commitment out of all 5 players on the floor and any players subbing into the unit is off the charts. ISU wasn't as good defensively last year because one player - Jackson - was not able to stay in front of guards when he got switched. If the guard can penetrate regularly all of the helping ends up leaving someone open for a good shot. It wasn't an accident that Chatfield who could do a better job when switched onto guards ended up getting starter minutes as the season wore on because the defense was more cohesive with him out there. So if it's so effective why don't more teams run it? Does it take so much time to coach and drill to run effectively most teams don't want to do it? Too much effort required for players?
Agree this is a combination of personnel and execution. The latter of which requires both intense focus and commitment. If one fails, a well-coached offense is going to absolutely pick it apart.Just my opnion but other teams do try to do some of this, but the effort and commitment out of all 5 players on the floor and any players subbing into the unit is off the charts. So you need excellent one on one guard defenders, disciplined play as a unit, bigs that can hold their own when switched on guards and players with high BB IQ who can anticipate the pass and disrupt it. And then you need players with the stamina (both mental and physical) to repeat it again and again for 40+ minutes.
By the way, I was floored by those post defense numbers in that video. I knew they were good, but that is absolutely ridiculous.
