Nice win by the girls, in a sweep. 25-23, 25-22, and 25-15. Seemed like we just wore them down. We started really slow in sets 1 and 2, which is kind of frustrating. Big performances by the young players.

Would this also be the first time it was won by the 'away' school? Most of the games are at Iowa this year.
Yeah, there has never been a back-to-back winner largely because of how lopsided the home/away advantage is each year. This year is an "away" year for ISU. Only two events total are in Ames and both of them are already done (women's soccer and volleyball). Other than cross country at a neutral site in Peoria, everything else is in Iowa City this year.
Conaway is going to be a great one by the time she's done at ISU, likely CJL's best ever H/B although Capezio will push for that honor, too.
Shymansky did not do his team any favors. His lack of composure clearly hurt them, especially in the second set, but also carried over into the third.
I have to say I was pretty impressed with their back row. They made life easier for their setter than our back row did for Horner - although our back row overall was bumping better than last year.
Iowa could be a force in a year or two; they have some pretty decent recruits.
Gotta say I love what Christy is doing with this team. She has some very strong recruits this year, with more coming next year. And I agree with the previous post - Conoway will be a history maker in this program. Best hit of the game was Capezio's from the back row; it was a rocket.
Was anyone else frustrated by blocking which is still not tight? This was actually the first game I have been able to see this season, and I know we are improving, but..... Just wondering.

Why was the owa coach continually harassing the officials over calls...Ddn't recall he won any argued calls
Next two events are cross country which we should win to put us up 11-0 before wrestling will make it 11-2.
There is a big 4 dual indoor track meet in Ames on January 24 but I don't know if this is counted.
Wanted to, but:
1) What can you do with the first name of Bond? Now Richard, I got something.
2) No technical fouls, I assume VB has something similar; don't know what it is called.
3) Even CJL had her mouth open at the side ref at one call that went against ISU.
CJL did argue the one call but she made her displeasure known and moved on. Bond had a couple of close calls to complain about, but he just wouldn't let it go. I did yell "Sit down, coach!" at one point, but I was sitting in the balcony so I doubt anyone heard. :smile:

The refs give out yellow cards and then a red card for ejection I believe, similar to soccer for unsportsmanlike behavior.
We thought the same thing about their coach. When he was calm, their team stay composed. When he got preoccupied with the calls, his team also seemed to get unsettled.
Some of the hits Iowa dug in the back seemed on the lucky side. Granted, they played very scrappy. They were in the right place at the right time. By the third set, their luck ran out, and we wore them down.
Like ISU, Iowa played a lot of young players.
Also liked that hit by Capezio. But one of the best plays was Conoway stretching almost horizontal to save a ball beyond the sideline, and somehow, passing it back across court to Bigbee for a kill. That was amazing.
Again, CJL showed that she's willing to use the depth if someone is struggling with errors. Last week she subbed out Capezio and went to Kuhrt. This match, West was replaced by Vondrak.
