ISU Commit Rohach Gets Huge Honor/Opportunity

This is a pretty big deal. I remember watching this show in the past and wishing ISU had a guy in it...so this is fantastic! With all the questions surrounding QB recently I don't think we will have any problems in the future...needless to say.

I really hope CW does a write up on this in the future.

Chris any chance we can get an interview with Grant about his experience at the Elite 11? Sounds like an amazing experience for him and it would be fun to hear what it was like.

Motivation and Heart are two different things. In my field, we call "Motivation" the temporary emotional fuel. It helps to get you through a tough situation at a certain moment. Like CPR yelling "let's get this 4th and 1" to win the game. Or, in the locker room, CPR gives Knute's "Let's win one for the Gipper" speech. That's motivation. It will not sustain you for an entire game if there is no "Heart".

"Heart" is the internal inspiration. It's passion for the game. It never ends. Heart keeps you going all of the time because you have passion for what you are doing. You either have it or you don't. Now, sometimes you need "motivation" but, usually not about things that you are passionate about. It can't be coached. Either you have it or you don't.

I agree that you either have "heart" or you don't to a certain extent. But even the most passionate player can get down from time to time. and when you get down, sometimes it's really hard to get back up and to remember the passion you have. That's where a good coach comes in, he picks you up and rekindles your passion when you need it. He also makes sure you are the most passionate and you bring your best at the right times. Emotion and heart ebbs and flows, No-one can be their absolute 100% best every practice or even every game, making sure you have motivated your players and have put them at their emotional peak on the right days while managing the season long roller coaster of emotions is what a great coach does.

Your points are well taken. Maybe I'm not being clear on the "you either have it or you don't". So, I'll use this analogy....I'm very passionate for and about my wife. Because I am deeply in love with her, my love for her never fades. Now, there are times when I have to be motivated when it comes to her wants and desires...not because the love is gone. There may be distractors like football games on Saturday. However, even when I have to be motivated, I'm still deeply in love with her. Now, if I didn't already have love for her, motivation will only last for a short time. Or, I would probably just move on to someone or something else.

Having "heart" and love for the game works the same way. Not every player that plays the game have a love for it. Some guys play simply because they are talented enough to do it. These are the ones that need constant motivation. Players that have this "heart" never lose their love and passion for the game. Even when they get down, a little motivation works. But normally, when they "lose their love and passion" , they typically hang up their cleats because they understand they can't at be their best without "heart". You either have it or you don't.
