ISU 12th in new AP

Rank the following teams. This isn't meant to hurt or help my argument. I just want to see how people would "vote" for these teams. Don't cheat, that'll take the fun out of it:

So these are all teams that have way harder schedules than UNI or WSU? I can tell none of these teams are either of them instantly because these are all at least somewhat respectable schedules. Both are sub 100 SOS.

He messed up UNI's SoS, should be 178

I switched UNI's SOS with their Non Conference RPI by accident when I was switching categories on ESPN's site...threw this together quick, its not scientific, just for fun.

Again, I will repost this for all of the ISU fans that are delusional.

SOS doesn't necessarily play as big of a factor in rankings pre selection Sunday in March. UNI beaten who's on their schedule, which is the name of the game and only has two losses

Come Selection Sunday will UNI be "ranked" (seeded) one of the top 12 teams in the tourney (4 #1 seeds, 4 #2 seeds, and 4 #3 seeds)? No. will Iowa State? Yes. This will be due to UNI's poorer SOS.

Everyone just needs to pull their undies out of their buttcrack and unclench their cheeks, because while UNI is ranked above ISU in the AP (deservingly so based on their RECORD), that won't be the case come Selection Sunday

This should answer anyones questioning of Cybyassociations "illogical
argument"

Your RECORD is basically meaningless though, without knowing who you've played to get to that record.

As someone else said, why aren't a bunch of these small schools with gaudy records in the top 25 then? Obviously the AP voters consider who teams have played or all these teams would also be up there.

This. I was thinking to myself when I got to that column, "Shoot, neither of them have that bad of a SOS." WSU isn't one of the teams listed FWIW.

Well the whole thread is talking about two teams that have sub 100 SOS, so I don't see the point of comparing fictional teams with an SOS of 51 and much better. Do it again with at least one team have as bad of a schedule as WSU or UNI.

If UNI had a 51 SOS and just two losses I might even be campaigning for them to be a bit higher than 10th. That'd put them somewhere around the average power conf team schedule strength.

I understand why most of you don't like that UNI is ranked higher than ISU, but why do you think they are? Flawed system? Conspiracy against ISU? Good record?

I'll try to put one together tomorrow. Maybe even a top 25 one and list something like 30 or 40 teams. Do you think one hiding W-L would be fun? What about one without RPI or SOS? Just trying to mix it up, get something fun going on.

I'm quite sure I wouldn't put the team whose best win is vs #50 ranked #11. To answer the other question you keep asking that's exactly why the AP poll is off. Most of these voters don't give that kind of attention to every team they ranked. They cover their local team or conference well then just do the lazy, move em up if they win and down if they lose.

Where we're disagreeing with you is this doesn't make the poll good and nobody is "deserving" of anything just by having a good record. If it were just about record let's give an AP #1 ranking to a middle school team. The vision of the AP poll you are painting is worthless beyond belief. They are supposed to consider schedule, if they weren't the AP poll would be formed by one guy with an excel sheet simply ranking teams by win %.

I don't think too many people are concerned that somehow the AP poll will represent the seeding of the teams in question. I truly do not care what the AP has to say at this point precisely because they are not a good representation of who the best 25 teams (in proper order) are in the country. The AP poll track record for predicting seeds is not great. I WISH the AP did a better job so that I COULD care.

The issue some are having here is that it has been stated that UNI deserves to be above ISU in the AP despite these same people believing ISU to be the better team. Don't be illogical.

Asshats who don't actually watch games and go by record and hop aboard the hype train get to vote. I feel like anyone who votes should have to give reasoning why they put each team in their spot.

So given how the AP poll is generated (with lazy sports writers who don't necessarily pay attention to all schools) UNI could theoretically be deserving of their ranking?

I do care if ISU is ranked or not by the AP since it drives a lot of coverage and publicity. I'm sure UNI has gotten a ton of publicity now that they are National Championship contenders this week according to the AP. There is a built in pressure that comes with that though, ISU hasn't always handled it well, we'll see how UNI does with it these 1-2 real games they have left.

A few years ago we were in that fight to get people talking about the program, now it's not as big a deal because we have something established.
