If somebody already made this then ignore this thread.

Since it seems a lot of people are flying overseas for the first time for this game, I figured I'd share some advice since I've been abroad a few times now.

1. Get on your new time zone ASAP! if you are on the plane it is 10pm in Ireland and 10pm is your bedtime, GO TO SLEEP! you probably won't get the full 8 hours, but starting sooner rather than later will be huge for you to adjust. Sleeping shoudl be your top priority regardless. You don't need to worry about entertaining yourself the whole flight if you're sleeping half the time as well.

2. Jet lag sucks, and if you arrive in the morning or afternoon I implore you to power through that exhaustion for the day until at least 8 or 9pm that night. iI you take a nap right when you arrive, you risk screwing up your whole trip.

3. Pack lighter than you think. If you have clothes for every day you are there and pajamas, then you'll be good. you don't need to bring 10 pairs of underwear for a 5 day trip (i promise you won't defecate yourself once a day). Plus, you'll have space for souvenirs!

Those are the ones off the top of my head but if any of you have any advice please feel free to share below!

Unfortunately will not be making the trip, but I have flown across the pond several times to London. I usually try to take flights that leave the US around 10pm local. Granted I'm 30, I do not sleep well on planes, I will usually try and sleep, or nap, after the first meal service for a couple hours until the plane is above or near Iceland. From there, I'll just try and entertain myself the rest of the flight. The beauty of later flights is that you get in sometime in the afternoon, so usually I'll just grab a coffee after landing and run on adrenaline until bed time and wake up the next morning pretty much adjusted to the time change.

The bolded is the most important. We do the power through and never get jet lag. We stay in AirBnb's, so we only do carry ons, so we get the jump on the immigration line.

I'll echo the above thoughts, sleep is the best thing you can do to improve your trip. If you're on a flight from the US to Europe that leaves in the evening US time (which is the most common), I'll usually play a mental trick that its like I have a big project/assignment that I might need to pull an all nighter, but the work is just being on a plane. So any sleep I get I view is kind of a bonus, whether that is a couple of naps or for a longer stretch but not 8 hours straight.

Then, as others have said, the most important is don't go to sleep until that night on the first day in Europe. I wouldn't even consider a nap, because you run the risk of it turning into a few hours and that can mess up the rest of your trip or at least the next couple days as you fight to adjust your sleep schedule. This is relatively minor, but I usually target going to bed at 8 or 9pm and then let myself wake up naturally, which usually is pretty early (maybe 6am local time). I do that so I have a longer runway to fall asleep in the evening in case I have a hard time at first, because even if it takes me a couple of hours I'm still asleep by 10 or 11. You'd think as tired as you are you would fall asleep right away in the evening, but it can be harder than you think because your bodies cycle is thrown off.

#2 is the most important for me. We've been doing that on our last few trips across the pond and while it is exhausting... it pays off. If you can make it until 8-9pm you'll prob crash and crash hard. Sleep in the next day and you're practically on the right time!

I've been waking up an hour earlier each morning. 4am CDT came early today but it will pay off. I leave tomorrow and am waking up at 3am CDT (9am there).

I've flown to the middle east 3 times for deployments. 7 hours to Ireland and than anther 7 to Iraq or Qatar. Literally got off the plane both times and had to go straight to the flightline to start the hand off process form the unit getting ready to leave. Absolutely brutal.
