I agree.
I see Clark as the guy with some bounce and speed to (and above) the rim that this group lacked.
Heise could do it a little bit. Watson doesn't have the offensive skills that Clark had. My stating that he's similar to Clark is simply that he's at least long and athletic. You really have to squint to see much else. The Pratt comparison is still weird. We were really lucky to have big-butted players like Pratt and Fizer back-to-back.

Then why did you ask?

Also, this is a message board, 98% is opinion so if you want facts, maybe wait for ESPN to report stuff.

Do you think TJ does not and has not told players it’s best they leave? I think he has and it’s the right call.
Great. Yes, I think it happens. I know it has happened with other sports with other coaches so I’m sure it happens with TJ too. My point, again, is to not present something as a fact when we don’t know it is a fact. A message board is for discussion, sharing opinions, etc. But to say that something happened with a particular student-athlete when we don’t know for sure is where we need to do better.

Say you think it, you suspect it, you’d be surprised if it didn’t happen - all good. Saying it actually happened without evidence is the problem.

I have a feeling our roster is going to look something like this.
Four returning
Four coming in
Three portal guys receiving NIL
Kelderman gets an open scholarship
A few portal guys the are intended as practice squad or emergency minutes
I mostly agree, however 1 of the portal guys will start at center, and one will be his backup. Plus we need an experienced back up point guard. So I believe all will be in the rotation. Imho

In high school, I once asked a girl to a dance. The response I received was, "I don't care." We went to the dance together (based upon positive input from her friends) and had a terrible time. I consider her to be a friend now but that was awkward to say the least.
Your post reminded me of a time when I was a kid and I asked my mom if I could do something. She said, "Go ahead. See if I care." So I did...and found out she did too!

I hate how the Watson situation went down this year.

"Hey, we need you to be ready at a moment's notice to provide valuable minutes when our guys are injured, even though we gave you no playing time in the non-con. Your reward when the guys are back from injury? How about you come in whenever Fish and Rock get in the game?"

Watson's defense erased some scores with his shot blocking or altered quite a few other shots. The fact we needed him and then we did him dirty by not rewarding him with any minutes after Milan came back really bothers me. He did everything that was asked of him and we did nothing for him in exchange.
He was a favorite of mine for 3 years too. End of the day though, not much improvement was happening. He looked a little better as a sophomore than as a freshman, but didn't seem like he developed much this season from last. It didn't help that he consistently never received an opportunity to play consistently, that had to be horrible for his development. Frustrating for both parties and for the fans that were pulling for him.

I’m curious when we became a perennial top 10 team. We been in the top 10 the last two years at most.
Under TJ.

More consecutive weeks in the Top 10 than ANY team in college basketball over the last 2 years!

My only point has been LEAVE THE COACHING TO TJ!! Of course he’s going to make mistakes, but there are several on here that question everything he does after a loss and have their oversimplified solutions when they are not around the team, not at practice, played 5th grade JV basketball and want to apply the coaching techniques they use on their child’s 2nd grade rec team. TJ and staff have forgotten more than you’ll ever know about the game so sit in your tractor or cubicle or wherever you earn your living and cheer for the Clones and leave the coaching to the professionals!!

It’s been rumored that TJ wants his main players paid equally. Blum had said the presidents were north of 250. To get Cluff something may have to give there.
Maybe a dumb question and someone might have answered it already, but can Cluff take NIL dollars being from Australia?

I know our Cuban wrestlers couldn’t take NIL because of certain visa restrictions.

I do not think players should get death threats/racist comments, or hate because of gambling. That being said, with the money that is now in college sports, I think fair criticism is warranted. Kelderman is a great story but the reality is he is a D3 player at best. The fact TJ couldn't adapt and come up with a lineup without him is a ding on an otherwise stellar coaching resume.
Whether it's warranted or not, fans have to realize it does effect the players. Which in turn can effect the season and future recruiting and transfer decisions. Those who write this off as "this happens everywhere" also don't seem to realize isu has to get players at a discount. Part of the sale is the fans...with the negativity to individual.players, we loseb that selling point. Trust the guy who's the head of our nil.

I think they found away around that. I am not possitives on the specs but I think they can just get a work visa along with their school visa. Basically the same as if they get a job at a coffee shop or a gym.

So about potential incoming transfers - am I naive in thinking the longer the Cluff decision drags on the worse ISU's chances are? Some have said the "do not contact" tag is basically meaningless, while others have said it means he already knows which shortlist of schools he will choose between. In the past, we've seen transfers commit on or right after their visit. Hearing reports of Cluff talking to Purdue and Memphis after allegedly being on campus here does not seem to bode well.

I have no inside information on this particular situation, but in general I'd say you are reading too much into it.

From other sources I've seen, the "do not contact" is a common approach in this cycle and generally would mean that the recruit prefers to control which programs they will entertain communcation with, possibly through their agent.

I wouldn't necessarily read much into a recruit in the first week of the portal being open talking to other programs beside Iowa State as positive or negative for our chances. I mean, if you were a recruit and had multiple suitors, wouldn't you want to listen and possibly visit each one, even if you loved the first one on the list? Every situation is unique. Some people might commit right away, some might prefer to shop first and then decide.

How does the NIL money work? Does the We Will collective just tell TJ how much money they have for men’s basketball and the coaches decide how to distribute the funds? Or are the We Will people involved in the negotiations? Just curious how this all works.

And those thicker bigs will just continue to get out jumped and beaten down court by the raw athletes TT and Houston have.

The premise that TJ has focused on thicker bigs is misplaced IMO. Sure that was the case this year with Jefferson, Jackson and Chatfield. But prior to that Robert Jones, Hasan Ward and Osun Osunniyi were all more athlete than plodding post players. I even think JT Rock is a decent athlete for a 7' kid.

Your point is valid, we haven't had the crazy athletes in the 6'5"-6'7" range that Houston, TT, Baylor, etc. have had in the Big12. And seems like BYU and Arizona have shown a style that relies on long perimeter players and post combo where one guys is an above the rim guy (Veesaar, Keita) and the other a rebounding brute (Awaka, Traore).

The nice thing, is TJ and staff are constantly tweaking how they build the roster to address what they view as needs to make ISU a top 10 team. This past year it was adding more skilled low post guys in Jefferson & Jackson. But what they got wrong is combined with Chatfield, we didn't have that trapping, rim-protecting post we had in TJ's first 3 years. I expect they learned and will evolve.

As a fan hoping Batemon, Toure, Mitchell and Pleta are kids that have the basketball skills and athleticism to get their shots at all 3 levels. I look back at even when the Cyclones were clicking in Nov/Dec/Jan that Tamin, Keshon and Curtis consistently made some crazy tough shots in leading us to wins.
