He took over a 2-22 team and led them to the Sweet 16 the very next year and 4 straight NCAA tournaments including a team that was top 5 for at least a time in two straight seasons, already more tournament wins than any coach in ISU history. Anybody who is questioning whether this man is the right coach has some insanely high expectations for a coach at Iowa State.
This isn't a blue blood program, this guy has been hugely successful for a basketball school like this. He's a generational coach for this program and we should be very grateful if he doesn't jump ship for greener (literally) pastures.
No one is questioning where TJ is the “right coach” for Iowa State.

And he didn’t take a 2-22 team to the NCAA tournament; he built an entirely new roster in like 4 weeks, instilled an entirely brand new culture to those entirely new players within like 12 weeks, and got that team to win 24 games and only lose ONE time to a team not in the Big 12.

Not exactly sure.
Not about any one comment directed at any one player. What started this was when you said essentially that players who leave were asked to go. I said if we don’t have evidence, maybe we should hold off on presenting suspicions as facts. Given the fact that many on this board said pretty terrible things about a senior that were not true. We need to do better. Anything past that are responses to your replies.

I don’t really care who you are or what you do. I just want us, as a fan base, to slow our roll a bit with throwing around things as “facts”.
Then why did you ask?

Also, this is a message board, 98% is opinion so if you want facts, maybe wait for ESPN to report stuff.

Do you think TJ does not and has not told players it’s best they leave? I think he has and it’s the right call.

Of course. Any time a kid doesn't commit, on the spot, it's a moderately worse scenario. If you ask a woman to marry you, and it isn't an immediate "yes", there is a greater potential for a "no".
In high school, I once asked a girl to a dance. The response I received was, "I don't care." We went to the dance together (based upon positive input from her friends) and had a terrible time. I consider her to be a friend now but that was awkward to say the least.

It’s been rumored that TJ wants his main players paid equally. Blum had said the presidents were north of 250. To get Cluff something may have to give there.

I'm curious about this Cluff guy. He looks like a good offensive player, but is bigger like Dishon and doesn't appear to be overly athletic. I'll trust the coaches but I was hoping for more raw athletic long bigs.

I think your hope may need to be tamped down. TJ seems to like thicker bigs. The rim runners he had struggled with his style.

I don't think anyone is questioning whether he is the right coach or not for ISU.

But it's naive to think he doesn't make mistakes.
Agreed. I'm the only person I know that doesn't make mistakes. Or maybe I make all mistakes if I listen to my wife.

I'd guess they tried Nojus and it didn't work so you have to have someone out there to manage the ball while Tamin is at about 60% if that.

And I know they were out there together.

Tamin's leadership off the ball may have been needed to help direct things and still be a threat from three while Cujo got some rest.

I keep seeing mention of Watson being the best athlete. I didn't see that. He has length and maybe decent hands but seemed to not be able to keep up with a dribble drive or cover space and couldn't do much beyond a putback.

Those comparing him to Rashon Clark or Pratt need to go watch film of those guys.
I can see the Clark comparison to a small degree. He is nothing like Pratt.

There are a ton of players that are just free agents every single Year like Dainja. I get why they do it. I mean it makes sense moneywise. Probably ruining the college experience but for 1-2 million dollars I would do it also. I also don't understand why kids like Stirtz from Drake is leaving so much money on the table by going to Iowa. I know he likes the coach but geesh. Kansas State will pay him 2 milliion to go there.
Play for Tang?

I said he took over a team that was 2-22, not the same personnel, but a program that was 2-22.

great coach no doubt, love that he is here. He wants to be here and that is awesome. We seemingly don't have to worry about him leaving. With that said, we as fans can point out or discuss things we think he should do differently, doesn't mean the fans are right though. I'm sure even he will evaluate himself as a coach and change a few things.

1. Does the amount matter? When they get paid NIL are their scholarships then
revoked? So they are getting paid on top of free room and board. And I'm not thinking.

2. Absolutely would still be critical. You don't remember the Hoiberg and Prohm days? Not only did it happen on this site.....it was almost encouraged. Especially the Prohm years. The reasoning was that players don't read these threads. Now it's a problem? Better tell them to stay off this site.

3. Feelings? What has ISU basketball become now an encounter group? Again, read above about the Hoiberg and Prohm years. Heck.....I can even remember the Morgan years. No one cared about "feelings". And didn't matter their age.

4. Back to #1. These players are getting paid plus free room and board to represent a PUBLIC university playing a............game. Fans have been critical of entertainers since the beginning of time. Sticks and stones. Or as many on this site said during the Prohm years.........its part of the job.
As for posting job info......how the h*** are you going to post a comment on job performance unless you are there? Thanks in advance.
I’m not sure I’m following most of this. My comments were in response to what was posted.

Because it happened before doesn’t mean it was okay then or now. And yes, players in Hoiberg’s years complained about negative social media comments. In fact, Hoiberg addressed it in a press conference in February of 2014.

My original post in this thread was to say that maybe we shouldn’t present things as fact when they aren’t. That shouldn’t be a controversial take.

That's fair. I was just piggybacking on what the poster I quoted said "Just when I question T.J., I realize how much he's done for the program", not his exact quote but what was insinuated.
I kind of see it in the same vein. Of course it's fair to criticize him and he does make his fair share of mistakes but then I say to myself "but Iowa State is really lucky to have him".

We do know TJ meets with every player individually shortly after the season finishes, usually within a day or two. And I believe it was reported these meetings occurred Monday. So I can think we can safely assume TJ comes to an agreement with the players about their future at ISU

And yes, that is a message board assumption!! :)
