***Iowa postgame thread***

i have noticed people have a hard time accepting that the cyclone fanbase over-obsession is the reason why hoiberg left. he did not want to be worshipped. prohm is here to teach this fanbase a lesson about not worshipping their golden calf [hoiberg in this case].
Wrong. Fred left because he got offered millions of dollars to achieve one of his life long goals. Fred has been on the record more than once talking about how he hated recruiting grind, which is why he opted for the free agency route. But other than that your are exactly right.

I think a lot of people aren't realizing that we're going to need to do more than 9-9 or 10-8 in conference play this year to be safely into the tournament. We are now outside the top 100 in RPI with a real empty resume heading into the B12.

I told some buddies after Cincy that I wasn't sure this was a tournament team. They laughed at me.

We whiffed BIGTIME on the interior. Like whiffed by epic proportions. I'm not sure what they saw in Holden, but that guy.... wow.

This fanbase has been crying out for a big guy that just comes in and foul people for like two years.

hoiberg best day of his life was when he flew out of ames to take the bulls job. let that sink in.
Oh, you mean the day that he signed a multi million dollar contract to coach in the NBA and set his entire family and their families and their families families up for life? Yeah, i would be pretty jacked as well.

Just watched the Prohm post game, wow, we're in trouble. Still thinks our shooters are our strength??? While I don't think his scheme(whatever it may be) resembles McD, I feel his ability to reach his players and get them incorporate what he wants just isn't there.
Our shooters are our strength. The problem is that we aren't moving the ball around to get the open looks. Couple that with the lack of interior touches and yeah, you are going to shoot a pretty low percentage most nights.

KenPom has us going 18-12 (9-9).

Massey has us going 18-12 (9-9).

RPI forecast hasn’t updated yet.

The last 18 win team that made the NCAA tournament was in 2008. That record would put us fighting for our lives in the Big 12 tourney. The fact is at this point the margin for error is almost zero. I originally wrote a lot more more but the facts are simple. ISU needs to start playing better if it wants to play in the only postseason tourney that matters.

If they aren't our strength, what is? Naz and Matt didn't forget how to shoot, but there is far too much dribbling and one-on-one play. Monte driving and kicking will be far more effective for everyone.

This:
Previously 25th ranked Iowa State entered Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday set to go up against an Iowa program ranked 179th in adjusted defense (according to KenPom.com) with an appalling RPI of 267.
This makes a Cyclone fan vomit.

hopefully prohm starts working on the offense this week. or do we think he will wait till right before the big 12 tourney to install of the offense so we surprise our opponenets. and by then we will have worked on our defense for so long we will be the best defense ever?

which is why we see runs when some of our starters get sat down. team play.

Is Indiana at the bottom of the Big Ten?

This is such a dumb comparison. Indiana has beaten 2 top 5 teams and we have struggled to look competent against teams with a pulse.

Edit to add: I don't actually think we are the bottom team and am not defending that statement, just saying this is a horrible comparison.

This team has no inside offensive (or defensive) threat, none at all, unless you want to consider Burton that, but he plays more as a wing. That makes it a lot easier for other teams to cover the perimeter and double-team the ball out top if they choose to do that. Disrupts ISU's offense and if ISU does not figure that out soon, every Big 12 team will use it against them.

I am just surprised that 9 games in, and after a struggling offense against any team with a pulse, ISU has not figured it out yet. Coaching staff has not figured it out, or seems unable to adjust and get the players to adjust, and the experienced players have not figured it out on their own. ISU has 4 players starting who all have started at times in the past, yet they can't seem to play as a team. The only time the offense has looked good this year, imho, was the first half against Omaha, a team that beat Iowa. Yet, the very next game, how that was done seems to be forgotten. That was the only game this year where the assists to basket percentage was respectable.....again against teams not named Citadel.

This team needed Malou, or needed grad transfers who actually were a strong inside presence for their previous teams. We were spoiled I think with the transfers Fred was able to get. So far, I don't think Prohm and staff have shown that same ability to find the right players that fit and fill the team's needs. Holden should not be starting. I think you start Young. He is much more of an offensive threat than Holden. At the same time, I would start Bowie or Babb in place of Naz. Naz is just not the same. Could be he is still shaking off the rust, but to me his outside shot does not look the same as before. A coach needs to work with him on his shot or help him figure out why he is only shooting 26 per cent.

I just don't have a lot of faith at this point that this group of players or this coaching staff can make the necessary adjustments. If they have not done it by the 9th game...

In previous years they could have survived this record because they scheduled much better. This year the scheduling was atrocious. Too many sub 200 and 300 teams.
To be fair this years schedule was put together anticipating not having Long or Morris so they included more buy games than normal.

I think you are getting your info from a very biased source. It reads a lot like someone's agenda.

As for Fred coming back here. He will be a college coach again soon enough. But it won't be here.

No he won't. He won't go back to the nasty world of recruiting, imo.

I wouldn't say that he whiffed. Losing Malou and Lard was a huge blow. The end of the Fred era put Prohm in a really bad spot. You can say that I'm making excuses but its the truth.
