***Iowa postgame thread***

Is it possible that they are not as good as we were led to believe? I hope that's not it and they get it together very soon.

This might be stupid but do we consider having monte and deonte split pg time or at least run the offense through burton more? Its no secret that the teams FG% has not been very good this year which makes us settle for contested 3s. If we can get drives to the basket it will open up shots for others and right now burton seems like the only one who can do that.

Ejim would have looked just as hopeless tonight. He benefitted immensely from playing off of both Kane and Niang that year. Ejim never really got his own shots.

If Burton is willing to be a drive and kick guy then I like this plan because Monte is a drive and pull up for an 18 footer guy right now. He's not making anyone collapse on him. Burton will certainly draw people in.

********. Ejim out worked anyone he played against. He made himself B12 player of the year and he wouldn't have allowed this team crap their pants like they did

Just got home from the game not to long ago. The best way I can put it is our team didn't seem to take Iowa seriously to begin the game. Iowa did all the little things way better than us (out rebouding us, running back on fast breaks, picking off lazy passes) it it just looked poor effort and execution by ISU. Iowa looked confident and smart, ISU looked lost and lazy. By the time ISU starting playing a little better the 2nd half it was too late.

Last sediment of the night, every team the past couple of years has had at least one player with a "killer" instinct. This year's team has zero. No guys that would rip the other teams throat out. No true competitors.

You can outwork every guy and still look like ****. It's not an easy game. If working hard had a lot of value, 90% of CF would think they could play college ball.

Ejim had talent and worked his ass off, but he was the 3rd best player on that team.

leadership or lack thereof. which isn't surprising given the comments before and after the game.

The team with Kane and a Niang? Yeah Talent wise he was. but don't act like he was leeching off of those guys because Niang wasn't going to defend down low or rebound like Ejim did. Ejim being Ejim allowed those guys to do what they were good at.

If you go by talent alone Burton should be the best player on the court. But he's far from it.

Wow, we have some whiney, bandwagon fans. A little bit of adversity and people act like the sky is falling. I am confident the coaches and players will make the needed changes and we will get in the NCAA Tournament.

This isn't a perfect team with all the pieces- mainly missing a post scorer. I thought our defense was OK, not horrible against the Hawks. I saw two big issues on defense. First, we didn't go strong for loose balls/rebounds. Iowa made the hustle plays. Second, our help defense is much better this year than since Hoiberg arrived. The problem is we need to be stronger on the ball, so that we don't need to switch all the time. Also in help defense, we need to understand when not to leave 3 point shooters to help/double.

Offense is the bigger issue and based on individual ability, I never thought that was possible. The coaches need to figure a way to create low post offense. Opponent defenses don't need to protect the paint, so defenders are camping out on the 3 point line. I am convinced Thomas and Naz are really good 3 point shots, but they along with Morris, Jackson and Burton are taking some tough shots. Way too many jump shots!

I believe changes are needed to our starting lineup. In both the Cincy and Hawk games, I thought our offense looked best when Jackson and Weiler-Babb received extended minutes. I would start Monte, Matt and Nick outside. We need a big body that isn't afraid to mix-it-up inside. I'd start Burton and Young in the post. I still like a roster with the above five and Jackson, Mitrou-Long, Bowie and Holden off the bench.

Jackson's shot was ugly tonight, but I really like his defense. Also Holden might be tentative because he is trying to avoid fouls. Maybe, if he doesn't start, he can relax and play aggressive.

Seniors in last year's game should have known better if it was seriously a lack of effort.

It's a freakin' rivalry game.
