We threw it to bitter once early that I remember. Dude forgot to close his hands as the ball blew through his hands. Everyone was dropping passes.

Rocco had Bremer (I think) wide open in the end zone on the jump ball incompletion in the first half. He also really struggles with eyeing down the receiver he’s going to throw to.

I’m convinced that coaches at Iowa State need to move on every 5 years. I honestly think it’s such a hard job that they run out of steam. Dan ran out of it, Campbell ran out of it. It’s like if they move to a new job and get an up and coming guy every 5 years we could have a better shot.

He had Noel open for 20 yards and more on the pick 6. It's clear they've cut the field in half for him to start. He has one or two reads. I'm actually encouraged with his play though for a redshirt frosh. He has some moxy.

He didn't hole up and get gun shy and I didn't notice any weirdness with teammates or anything.

Since his running ability is supposed to be a strength I'd like to see him etch out to the flats and play catch if there's going to be a limit on reads.

Maybe we see that if the running game gets going.

I kinda agree and kinda disagree.....Matt had upward trajectory and could recruit on optimism and energy his first few years.....and it showed....The Alamo Bowl loss looms larger from that seasons recruiting as time goes by....we win that and a few more CyHawks his first few years....he gets more recruiting targets and we aren't in this funk malaise we are in now....but it certainly seems like we are in the death spiral that killed Goose. The coaches will eject and be fine in Florida beaches with more money than we ever could earn and their sub-20 ACT scores. ISU fans get ejected and hit their heads on the canopy.

At this point I hope Northwestern or Illinois do us a favor and poach our coach.

It won't be the Illini, at least for a few seasons. They seem to think they have something special in Bielema. They will slowly learn the truth.

I would love to know what the staff thinks Jaylin Noel does well. He doesn’t have great hands, he isn’t a burner, he doesn’t make people miss, and gets brought down by any hint of contact. Pretty much exactly what you don’t want out of a slot WR

Noel would be a flag football All-American. Probably looks great in practice but as soon as there is a chance to get hit he folds every time. I chalked up to being a young player last year but this is just who he is at this point. Time to sit his ass on the bench.

Noel is the most overrated player in iowa state history. I vote we only play bitter and Higgins the rest of this year and use the extra spot from the pointless Noel on an extra TE

If I was an Iowa fan I would ask how much was McNamara paid to come to Iowa? First play, he totally misses a wide open receiver who got went unguarded down the middle of the field. Okay, quarterbacks sometimes miss wide open receivers. But late in the game, he overshot another wide open receiver on a drive that would have put the game away and kept Iowa State in it. Rocco, making his first power 5 start, I felt, got a better as the game wore on. McNamara is a step up from a bad quarterback, but at one time he was 2-11 on third down plays. The only thing that will save him is their weak schedule.

Totally agree. For all his hype, McNamara looked just like Petras did the past couple of years and knowing the Iowa staff, they will beat him down until he is barely effective. Rocco, as a true freshman, looked to be the much better QB. His passes were on the mark for the vast majority of his throws and if he had receivers that could catch the ball, his stats would have been even higher. I would stick with the kid and if JJ feels he needs to transfer, then so be it.

So, you just proved my point.

He's 1 for 4 on deep passes. that's not just fine. Arm strength and talent isn't just being able to throw it deep. its about throwing it deep on time, in rythm and accurate.

And I literally mentioned how we were good with Brock. We had dudes on that team that helped. Breece was a walking home run threat.

His arm strength is fine, accuracy is a whole other issue. I don't see how overthrowing receivers is a sign of poor arm strength.

I think Purdy has proven he was a great QB regardless of the talent around him.
