Iowa Coaching List

I hear this man has expressed interest...

Donovan's name is going to be out there alot, but mainly because he wants a new contract at UF. Beleive me, Foley won't let him get away. IF and this is a big IF he goes anywhere it would be Kentucky where he was an assistant under Pitino... I have a feeling Iowa might end up making a Wayne Morgan type hire... There are too many better jobs out there and no coach wants to go in a situation where the last coach was run out of...

I hope they hire Altman because i think it would be another great 8-9 years for the cyclones!! He made Creighton a great MVC team when there were no other great teams in that conference, but now he's just so-so. Perfect qualifications for the job.

I'm not trying to be an Iowa homer or anything like that, but let's not forget about what people thought our chances of hiring Coach Chizik were...

I really don't think anyone wants to coach at Iowa that badly and it's not some great coaching job that all these great coaches would want, but again, no one said we could get anyone better than Dan McCarney and we did that.

On a side note: I saw on KCCI this morning a list of "potential Iowa coaches" and it basically listed every big time coach in the country right now:

-Bill Gillespie
-John Calipari
-Billy Donovan
-Bruce Pearl
-Rick Majerus

With the exception of Majerus, for Barta to hire anyone of those guys would probably secure his job for many years to come. I laughed when I saw it, but then remembered about how everyone said that we would be lucky to get anyone to come to this "recruiting graveyard"

...but again, no one said we could get anyone better than Dan McCarney and we did that.

And how many wins does Chizick have? Can you honestly say he is better than Dan McCarney at this point in time? I certianly hope he is better than Mac, but we can't make this statement at this time.

On a serious note, does anybody else question Altman's coaching skills? While the guy's had good success for a mid-major, I still think he'd have similar recruiting problems to Alford. I guess I just don't see him getting Iowa to a higher level than Alford did even though he's a little easier to like.

Any thoughts?

Iowa might be cautious about hiring another MVC coach after how Alford panned out. I like Altman but he has a good thing going at Creighton, why take on the Iowa mess?

I agree. Chizik has not even coached his 1st game as a head coach yet and some people here think he's a savior or something. I hope he succeeds but until he has a couple years and some more of his recruits here the verdict is still not out on him yet.

All the stupid Squawk fans over here think they are going to get Bruce Pearl.

That's a bit of a lofty goal IMO.

Maybe they'll get Wayne Morgan!

Or did he get another job offer somewhere else? I'm all over the place.

If they do hire Altman will we as Cyclone fans be able to use the "he did great in the MVC but that is way different than the Big 10" comeback like they used against McDermott?

Maybe Jacobsen at UNI? I had many UNI grads (or otherwise known as Hawk fans) say that Jacobsen was the real coach at UNI earlier in the season and that GMAC was just the figurehead. I wonder if they would take him now?

My fear is they get Tom Crean (sp?) from Marquette.
