Iowa city tailgating

I don't think tailgating in IC is bad per se, it's just so different from Ames.
I've had plenty of good times there.

A lot of people park in the hospital parkades since they shut those off to the nurses on game days and make them walk a few miles to work. But "the wave" makes up for all that horrible treatment of our medical workers.

Its about what you would expect from the cesspool of society, mostly kept to ourselves, lots of drunk tavern hawks yell **** at you to and from the game, even had some beer cans lobbed at us.
Been my experience too. Even my wife who graduated from there was pissed about it. I will never go to a cyhawk game in IC again. My wife has never been treated poorly in Ames when she’s worn her Iowa stuff. Good natured ribbing yes, but nothing trashy. We always keep to ourselves and don’t talk trash. I just have no desire to go back.

How far is the walk from there?
It's on the other side of campus, probably a mile or so, but it's not exactly a straight line. I've walked it before when I didn't want to wait for the shuttle, just follow the crowd and you'll be fine. Last year for the Iowa-Indiana game, some folks from Indianapolis hung out with us before and after the game, it was a great time and we talked basketball and Bobby Knight for an hour.

I know emotions are high during the ISU game, but most people are friendly and just want to enjoy a good game.

Every fan base has idiots. They have enough of them l’ll never go back.

This is where that old rail line was beneficial. Park at the Coralville mall, tailgate a little, take the train in/out, and be a few miles ahead of the traffic jam on the way out of town.

There’s a $5 round trip shuttle bus from Lloyd Knoble Arena to the OU stadium but I’ve walked it a couple of times myself.
We saw it last fall, then saw the line, and figured the walk didn’t look that bad. Also near to see a little of the campus.
