Interim/New Coaches Coming Up

My understanding is that McGuire is staying with Baylor at least into December, and will not take over any duties (beyond recruiting) at TTU until he completes his time at Baylor. It's a weird situation that I think may be an even larger distraction than him just cleanly severing ties.

I took the line that he "will join the Texas Tech athletic department immediately and will take over as head coach "immediately"" to mean that he was leaving Baylor - is that not the case?

tech fired a 5-3 coach to hire a baylor assistant. makes no sense to me

Tech fired a coach that had the 2nd worst conference winning % in the entire history of the program. With OU, ISU, OSU and Baylor left, that's about as loaded as any 4 game schedule you're going to find in the country. It was time to get a jump start on the coaching search.

McGuire was someone who was highly sought after, Texas offered him a job, Oklahoma offered him a job, both Kingsbury and Wells offered him jobs. He's about as well connected in Texas as you can possibly get. I get from the outside looking in, promoting another teams assistant doesn't look like a great hire but he was Tech fans #1 target from Day 1 and clearly the AD's as well.

ok come back here when you guys fire him in 3 years

For whatever reason we have had Tech's number even back to CPR years but their results this year are better upon inspection than what I would have guessed. I think I saw Longhorns hang 70 on them and just assumed they sucked in all games but they have had some solid outings.

Tech looked solid until they lost the 4* starting QB in the 1st quarter of the Texas game. It was a "oh no here we go again" deal and the wheels completely fell off. The 2nd string QB rallied for a solid win in Morgantown but he got injured in Norman. Now for seemingly the 5th straight season, Tech will have a 3rd string freshman starting at QB.

Tech is once again decimated with injuries all over the field. Same exact story every single year. Can't stay healthy and the backups can't beat anyone with a pulse.

All the best to you (except when you're playing against ISU of course). I hope he can bring back a little bit of the magic that Mike Leach had going in Lubbock. The new B12 needs all teams to be better (especially in non-con games).

Agree, I'm actually excited about the new B12. Just tired of everything UT & OU. I want some new blood and different teams to have their time in the spotlight, instead of UT & OU all the time.
