Spoke with a Crown Castle contractor last night who is in town to increase the cell coverage/strength for Jack Trice, Hilton and Scheman. He said they are installing a carrier agnostic system that includes additional antennas – known as a Distributed Antenna System – to fill in dead zones.

I think it is great that ISU is finding ways to make the fan experience even better than it is right now. He was worried that the system might not be up and running by the UNI game because of delays in getting the poles painted (showed up in Hawkeye colors) and getting all the fibre installed.

It sounds like Verizon is on board but other carriers may need more time to utilize the new system.

US Cellular puts up those temporary range extenders already but it doesn't seem like they do much of anything. I have a very hard time even sending a text during gameday. So I imagine if they are painting them cardinal and gold they will likely be permanent.

Went through this same thing last year on here. The first post is a huge upgrade to the temporary mobile ones. But until other carriers get on board their going to be stuck with same speeds as last year. I'm hoping as a customer of VZW that I see an upgrade this year. I just wish tomorrow was the day we get to find out.

In before the "They need to turn the antenna system off 20 minutes before the game to force people into their seats before kick-off" posts.

They should program the towers to automatically send a tornado siren alert to all phones in the area 20 minutes prior to kickoff.

More kids texting during the game means Hilton is even quieter than it was before.

We must have the worst AD, why are they building cell phone atennas if they are just going to tear down Jack Trice anyways..
