Ice on Campus

I was driving home from the gym last night around 10pm and was completely oblivious to the notion of the roads being iced over. Main streets were all completely fine and just wet but the second I got into my neighborhood I realized too late that the streets were an ice rink. Drove straight into some guys yard and cranked the wheel to avoid his mailbox then corrected and drove down his driveway.

Campus is a ghost town, so probably not many stories. I about biffed it first thing this morning though.
It didn't happen this year, but a few years ago a buddy of mine had a final the morning after an ice storm in Ames. Showed up and the teacher was nowhere to be seen. They waited around for an hour before the teacher showed up. She was escorted by an ISU PD officer and she had apparently slipped on the ice and shattered her wrist. Gave everyone in the class A's for showing up and then went to the hospital.
I was walking out to the car this morning holding a briefcase, my lunch and our 6 month old child in a car carrier. I managed to stay on my feet, but boy did it have the makings for disaster.
I slipped while carrying my daughter on an ice covered slanted driveway a few years ago. IIRC she was about 13 months old and I just wiped out and landed on my back and kept her from hitting the ground. That really sucked.
Yeah.. was over at a friends place last night watching some movies, didnt realize how bad it had gotten until i got a text from a friend that had left 'you might not want to drive... i just slid down a hill in the parking lot (of the apartment complex i was at near merle hay) and into a car'. I did end up leaving, but thanks to the warning i took it extremely slow getting out of the parking lot and didnt take the route that involved the hill. Interstates and main roads were fine but yeah things got iffy once i got west of jordan creek pkwy.
Walking to the bars last night I saw a girl wipe out. About two seconds after that a guy on the other side of the street proceeded to also biff it. He was a bit more smooth getting up though as he did a few push ups before rejoining his group.
There used to be a Hardees on Welch that had a glass atrium in the front. Every time there was slick conditions my friends and I would go eat there and watch all the people and cars sliding around.
Not a story about slipping on ice on campus, but I did fall down a flight of stairs and threw up on the sidewalk in Chicago after I got off the train when I was drunk after a game watch.
Long version: I can't remember what game it was, but I was on my way home from an ISU gamewatch in Chicago and I was very drunk on Blue Moons. I was passing out on the train ride home and had a really uneasy feeling in my stomach from all the stop and go from the train. Anyways, I get off the train and proceed down the steps to street level, as I was walking down the steps I slip and fall and slide down about 7 stairs on my butt. (all this happened in front of about 10 people). I turned around and laugh to myself and say "oops, my bad" in a drunken slur and not one person laughed or asked if I was ok (typical rude Chicagoans). I then walk out onto the sidewalk and about 10 steps into my waltz home and I could feel the vomit making its way up. With nowhere to go, I just stop in my tracks, bend over, and projectile vomit all over the sidewalk. Fearing a cop was going to see me, I quickly stand up and start walking like nothing happened. About 5 steps later, I lean over and puke again. The same people who saw me fall down the steps just walk passed me and don't say a word. (it was an 11am game, so remember this is all happening at around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon) I feel like a million bucks at this point. I make it back to my APT and proceed to pass out on my couch until about 10pm at night. Cool story bro, I know.

R - Fell down steps getting off train after a gamewatch. Then throw up twice on the sidewalk. With a crowd watching the entire time.

I was in Ames at around 4 today and was surprised by the number of people on campus. As far as disasters, when I was a kid my sister and I did an early morning paper route that my Dad would drive us around on. Well we got out to the car and my Dad had forgot his keys for the car and was running back in the house, well we had a porch that was low enough to the ground so we didn't have railing so he took the short route and was just going to jump up on the edge of the porch. Well needless to say we had freezing rain the night before and he hit a slick patch at the right time and slid through the facade on the porch and underneath it. It was quite hilarious.
My car left a mark in someone's yard today. :embarrassed:

(It was the late 80's...shush) It was an away game, and I was the first one off the bus, carrying a fairly heavy first aid kit in one hand, and a large duffel bag of basketballs over my other shoulder. My first step onto ground was a patch of ice, with dress shoes on, and my foot flies out from under me. The skirt flared out with the fall, and I land on the cold ground, with my pantyhose and underwear starting to get wet. That'll make you jump up quickly, no matter how "injured" you are.
