I State logo

I travel across the country. The new logo is vastly more recognizable already. I was interviewed at ESPN Orlando because they recognized the new logo, in Colorado comments and I could go on and on. Outside of the state of Iowa, the whirlybird logo was completely unknown to the people I have talked to. And on TV the old logo was a disaster. The new is great. Just my two cents.

The new Cy with updated colors is great...and it is not used as much as it should be. Logo staying power will never be achieved by reinventing, only by revamping (and winning of course). All the best logos go though changes, but rarely do you see them go in a complete 180 and not regard anything in their past. Marketing went the right way in establishing the logos, but they have a long way to go in utilizing them.

Which also brings me to another point...plenty of universities have multiple logos, and have multiple old logos. We are definitely not unique in that instance, but for some reason a common theme is that we can never be recognizable with our past multitude of logos/colors. Just have to win.

Yes, but did you visit any national park gift shops? I hear they sell old logo ISU gear like gangbusters.:jimlad:

Because schools like Nebraska and Oklahoma have had the same logo on their helmets for DECADES. Miami is going into their 40th year of having the same logo on their helmet. And even though Kansas just changed their uniforms not too many years ago, they still have their jayhawk at mid-field and mid-court while their helmet reads "KU". If Iowa State wants an identity (Pollard's reasoning for the logo change,) they need to decide on one and stay with it. Based on history, ISU will be changing the logo and look in the next 10-12 years.

I really would not have a problem with the "I-State" logo on the helmets and uniforms if they were to put the update "Cy" logo at mid-field and mid-court.

That's because we had that logo for so long and had some national success with that logo. If we had our current logo since the 80's, people would recognize that. Give the new logo some more time and let it get some more airtime on national tv and people will recognize it more.

I am in Estes Park on vacation as I write this. The only college stuff I've seen is as I walk by the "big red" store and plug my nose. Otherwise, the t shirts all have mountains on them.

What? Do you mean to say that even though there are thousands of people going through there every day, that it's not really a place geared toward the college athletic clothing crowd? I'm shocked.

Now we'll never sell that old ****

Why should I give it time? Because when it's "given time" is the time that they decide it needs changing. 25 years and I'll give it time.

So, you don't want to give our logo time, but you said in your previous post that ISU needs to pick a logo and stick with it?

Because I believe that they're only going to stick with the "I-State" logo for a decade. So why give it time when I believe the change will be coming? They're just going to change it again in 10-12 years and we'll be repeating the cycle of trying to give Iowa State an identity. When clearly the schools with the recognizable identities are the ones that don't change the way they look every 10-12 years.

Well, changing the logo again won't do any good.
I'm all for keeping the logo like it is. I love it. It will gain national recognition with more time.
For the people that don't like the logo and want to change it, well we are right back to square one and even less people will recognize it.
I'm all for keeping this logo until the end of the world. Who knows if it will change again. JP wanted to incorporate our true school colors into a collegiate style logo, and thats what he did. It's now set, so lets keep it.

For the people saying the getting I-State mixed up with Illinois st, Indiana St, and Idaho st is a common mistake, that is a lame argument.
If I were to wear a shirt with this logo on it on Oregon's campus, do you think I would get ****?

Well, I shouldn't because it's not Oregon St, its Oklahoma St.
See how fun this game is? At least we have different colors than all of the other ISU's and are the only BCS ISU.
Which one is more recognizable?

The dumbest thing Oregon State could have ever done was take the Beaver off of their helmet and slap an "OS" on there.

I'm with you on that. I'm glad to see more cardinal and gold in the uniforms. I don't like the "I-State" logo. I prefer to have some sort of mascot logo on helmets and uniforms, but like I said, I don't want to see them change in another decade. So even though I don't like it, I want to see them stay with it.

Like I said earlier, a "compromise" I would like to see sometime is "I-State" on helmets and uniforms, "Cy" at mid-field and mid-court like Kansas has done.

I think we need to keep our logo at midfield/court. The more often people see that on television, the more recognizable it will be, which seems to be the biggest concern amongst most people. If it's not on the field or court, you wouldn't see the logo very much at all while we are on tv. (besides football helmets)

Fine, but put Cy logos on the 25-yard line between the hash marks and sidelines. I want Cy on the field damn it! :biglaugh:

I could see that.
Kind of like Mizzou's basketball court: (except make the center logo a tad bit bigger)

i was a fan of the bird coming out of the tornado thing. why they always have to change **** is beyond me.

Always have to change!? We got the spinning bird like 16 years ago. And worse yet we had like 17 versions of it. And there was navy blue in it. And bright McDonald's red. And that 'font' couldn't be used in anything but the logo.

I think we are stuck with the "Chizik I-State Logo" for a while so we might as well embrace it.

People will try to tell you that the marketing people who changed our scheme once again have nothing to do with Chizik, but talk to the average fan and the vast majority call it the "Chizik Logo".

We're at the mercy of the marketing people. They wanted a new identity with Gene Chizik and we are still stuck in that mode.
