I am borrowing this post from r/CFB because I think it is relevant to Iowa State. Is music through the PA system in stadiums getting a bit excessive?

Can tha band be more aggressive on their music selection - even the band might enjoy it. Be compatible with the speaker vibe. Same with MBB. Do not have to have the same music time and time again. Be true to your school -yet promote the band’s ability/skills.

I'm now 40, but my whole family brings and wears ear plugs for the whole game. We're in the NW corner, about the 15 yard line.

It's ridiculous.
The older gentleman next to us loves the pregame as a veteran. But Jackie and piped music makes him have to turn his hearing aids off. It’s sad, I love talking to him, he knows everything about football

Let do theme days that will drive attendance. Last Saturday was Douche Country day so we got that one covered this year. Also who plays douche country music when you can't buy/have alcohol to drink while listening to it.

Depends on the band. I hate the idea of having away bands at non-neutral site games.

I CANNOT stand OU's band for instance. Absolute trolling garbage. They're atrocious. They have one song and they play it after EVERY play. 2 yard pass to set up 2nd & 8? Fire up the same stupid song. 50x a game, they don't care.

The repetitiveness honestly destroys the vibe to me.

I don't mind rap/electronic/rock or some pop music at all as long as it changes.

I love Juicy Wiggle, but luckily it is only played once per sporting event. If I had to hear it every quarter I'd go nuts.

I also love the band playing our fight song, but I also don't want to hear it over and over and over and over again at the same sporting event.

Basically just need to keep a good mix. Both too much PA music and too much band can be a bad things.

I think the seats in front of us must be mobile tickets or not held by season ticket holders. We have been really lucky this year and had no opposing fans.

The TT game was a family with small children. I remember when the AD was trying to sell the place as fun for the whole family. The kids all needed ear protection but still had questions over some lyrics. I’m not sure at this point if maybe it isn’t a very welcoming atmosphere for all ages. The focus has shifted and it may take a while for people to realize it just isn’t as much fun for their kids. All the night games hasn’t helped.

I'd like to start and preface that I never was in band nor marched in any high school or college marching band but I'd also consider myself a bit of band nerd anyway.

I know every Iowa State school song and its lyrics, I know all of the stand tunes, whether they're being played in between plays or during timeouts, and much more. I'm an ISUCF'V'MB "fanatic", if you will.

One thing I've noticed and I'm sure others have noticed this year specifically is that our band is not given many opportunities to play in between plays. Our PA system has instead decided to blast mostly rap music between each play and I personally don't care for it. One thing I appreciated about our game against Kansas in Arrowhead was that both bands got to play their school songs/stand tunes in between plays, after scores, etc.

Iowa State's band isn't even allowed to play "For I For S" after successful PAT's anymore....which has been a tradition for YEARS. Maybe I care way more than the average person, but I feel as though it has diluted our environment in that perspective.

Why have a marching band if they're not allowed to play?

Good night, let the event breathe. The sound system is cool but get our great band in there!

As a point of reference, KU's Phog Allen Arena is famous for its intimidating environment. When I've been there, I noticed an aggressive student section, but also an aggressive use of very loud piped-in music.

I agree. But that would not change the fact that anyone sitting in that area wont get a lot of enjoyment out of the band, if it really is the case they cant hear it.

Still dont like bands that seem to be on repeat, or on a broken record, skipping away.
If you actually paid attention they play alot of music during a game. Other than the fight song they are not on repeat as you would like to say.

Not talking about ISU band, the post before, that I was referring to, was saying I dont like bands that repeat the same thing over and over like KSU and FSU etc.

Kill the Ama Mater? Not a chance.

Kill the lady yelling at timeouts. That would be a great start.
Non-band members, but we are very loyal Cyclones for everything. The Bells being placed differently in front of the anthem in the pregame show is perfect. It is after the national anthem that things get amped up anyway. In our row/section, we lock arms side by side and sing the bells as they are played, just as we did in college. The song was a cool part of our ISU experience and was used at a family wedding.

My only band complaint is to bring back the original ISU fanfare and not this 5-year-old version that is terrible.

The pregame is very tightly scripted, as are the timeouts. There is not much wiggle room. The 15 minutes before the team takes the field are really good and provide a wow experience. So much improved over past years.

Just ax the host thing- it simply did not work and if you are using her only 2 or 3 times a game- it is not a good use of time.

Keep the piped-in music coming. Fewer instances of using videos of players telling us to get up on 3rd down, and no more of that Heaccock "Everything you got" nonsense. My UCF friends are still mocking that one. We could use a bit more football IQ as to when songs are played, but I attribute that to marketing people being stupid about sports. Song selection in the second half needs to be more instinctive and less scripted.

Go Cyclones

I'm watching the Ol Miss - Florida game right now, streaming an ABC 4K feed. During stoppages they frequently do wide stadium shots instead of commercials. LOTS of marching band, with the stadium singing along. The piped in music I heard was older stuff (Tom Petty "Won't Back Down" between 3rd/4th quarter). Again, whole stadium singing along.

The band and old music doesn't seem to be hampering their atmosphere.

I’ve tried to sing along with the rap music to no avail. It’s just way too loud.

It's too much. They need to cut down on it and involve the band more IMO. But I was born in the 70's, so I'm just shooing people off of my lawn at this point.

The first game was bad. Perfectly fine after that, got it reined in a ton and matched the environment around better.
The first game was atrocious. After that it did get reined in, but not enough. It is better, but not perfectly fine. She needs to go. She doesn't need to be replaced, but she needs to go.

For the pumped in music (and the band) there is far too much country music. We don't have to play into the stereotypes of this state. It's a pretty fair assumption that most of our fans went to Iowa State. We're college educated people, not dumb hillbillies.

Bands going away and going to the 12 minute NFL halftime is the best thing the college game could do.

I get that it's tradition but that doesn't mean it's good.

My opinion on pep bands in college basketball is the exact opposite.
That is hands down the worst take in this thread. No bands?! It's college football. What's next? The mascot? Tailgating? The whole sport is built on tradition, and basic fans/people are doing everything they can to suck the soul out of it.

I'm not saying I hate the song or it's bad for mood etc. BUT, I do have a statement and a question.

1) Statement. I attended ISU from 1986-1994, I don't EVER remember hearing that song during that time OR even before that. I knew "....and I don't care" from the time I was 7 and would sing anything slightly related to the Cyclones of Iowa State.

2) Question: Was I asleep, or intoxicated during the ALMOST 200 sporting events I went to during that time? Someone 16 years older AND someone 16 year younger than me who BOTH went to ISU said it was part of their experience. I'm wondering what happened for me? Any one have any explanations or similar siutation?

Thanks,
I've been going to football games since 1994. I remember the band playing it at every game I attended. I don't think a lot of people pay attention to the band 20 minutes before the game starts. I haven't been able to go to home games recently, but it sounds like they moved the song closer to kickoff, so fans are noticing more. We've also started to play it after the game like most teams do. That's somewhat new.

So you want to kill farmageddon also, are embarrassed about the VEISHEA riots, the Iowa corn sponsorship, you hated FS sponsoring the last game, get mad when the Landus headset thing comes on and so on and so on?

Or per your last statement, you are just too good for the average ISU person?
