I am borrowing this post from r/CFB because I think it is relevant to Iowa State. Is music through the PA system in stadiums getting a bit excessive?

Bells of Iowa State: I’ve dove into the lyrics and story. It’s awesome, and really cool. But I get so freakin angry every time they do this. It could not be worse for the moment and is so out of place. It’s the perfect case of “well we’ve always done it this way” when there’s a perfectly good reason NOT to do it anymore. Whoever is leading the charge in the AD defending this honestly needs a serious talking to because their being really selfish and stupid.
The song the band plays 15 minutes before kickoff?

There is a time and a place for the band.

When the intro music is pumped, loud - and the crowd is clapping and screaming and yelling as the team runs out in the field, bass is popping awesome with the new speakers - nothing kills the vibe more than the volume going down 90% as the band plays the freaking fight song, cutting off the intro music almost instantly. God that freaking sucks. Drives me nuts.

For a few years, they played Stone Cold’s entrance …for literally 1.02 seconds - then CUT IT OFF to allow the fight song to play the fight song, that you cannot hear in the upper deck. The worst thing our electrics/video team does, and they continue to do it - year after year. I’m sure the band nerds would have a fit. But can’t they just play the fight song like - 30 freaking seconds later!?

As someone who’s been to a few Big 12 road games (Kansas twice, K-State and Oklahoma State once)….we are the only school that actively hates their alma mater.

Those schools and their fans not only know the lyrics, they love singing along to it….and guess what? All of those schools play their alma mater during pregame as well and their pregames are still good and get the fans hyped.

Why Iowa State fans/alums don’t know the lyrics, I don’t know.

This just in: every team ever runs out to their school’s fight song.

Lol, what?

Just wait under we get the strobe lights during touchdowns. I'm sure that is coming eventually to make it even more insufferable.

I love the band, but its role needs to be reconsidered.

My biggest concern is late in a BB game when we are on a run and the other team calls a timeout. The crowd is going nuts and there is usually music keeping the crowd pumped . . . then the band starts and the vibe cools way down.

Last year, at K-State, in such a situation, we call a timeout while they were on a run, they played Sandstorm all through a full timeout and the crowd was as riled up at the end of the timeout as at the beginning. It was impressive.

I’ve really liked the changes they’ve made to the atmosphere at Jack Trice this year, and that would include the music they’ve pumped in. Like it or not, I think it does a better job of keeping the crowd engaged, particularly the students. I guarantee these changes came from the survey they sent out over the summer, so people obviously voted for things to change and this is the AD’s response to that. All they need to do next is mercy kill the Bells of Iowa State and the game day atmosphere the best it’s been in my lifetime.
Many fans will never know the quaint experience of going to a college football game. It's a corporate production now, just like the NFL. I get it, but it's gross.

I get it, but almost every school since the beginning of the marching band plays the fight song when the team comes on to the field/court. It's too bad so many people need ****** music with a big backbeat to get excited for a football game. But I guess more people want to be at a concert than a college football game.

So quick question on the playing of the Alma Mater? Are those saying it is a buzz kill are you an Iowa State Aum? Most of the folks around me are Alums and would be disappointed if it was not played. Not busting on anyone just wondering as to me that song means alot and I would be upset, as an Alum if it were not played. JMHO.

Yes I am an alum and the Bells of ISU means nothing to me
