So you worked at a 2nd class store and root for a 2nd class team? Got it....
I'd put Sunmart as a 3rd class store behind Hy Vee and Econofoods. But we had fun.

In Marshalltown the Econofoods was way ghetto.I'd put Sunmart as a 3rd class store behind Hy Vee and Econofoods. But we had fun.

You save more in one trip to Aldis than that card will save you. It's night and day.
My hometown of Charles City had an Econo Foods, which had been an Easter's previously. No idea what Easter's was, may have just been a locally owned joint. At any rate, Econo didn't last a super long time. It was nice enough, but I never found it to be favorable compared to Hy-Vee or Fareway, which were both in town also. I think it's an Ace Hardware now.In Marshalltown the Econofoods was way ghetto.
The worst part I encounter is Hy-Vee employees running around the store filling up carts for the aisles program (and getting in my way doing so).For the people mentioning "the lack of helpful smile in every isle" is this really a issue. When we go to the grocery store we know what we want/need and can find it relatively easy without assistance. In fact if we can manage to not see any employees in an isle that's a huge bonus.
And they are rude in my experience. They do not greet customers, and, in the most recent store I worked at, they were even discouraged from wearing name badges and the usual Hy-Vee apparel, simply so they wouldn't have to be disturbed. They might as well hire a third party to come in and do the online shopping if they are going to discourage their own employees from being "helpful smiles"The worst part I encounter is Hy-Vee employees running around the store filling up carts for the aisles program (and getting in my way doing so).
This is correct. Aldi also owns Trader Joe's. Their product quality is surprisingly very good. As well, Lidl, is taking over the USA too. Both are german chains. Those Germans are very smart. Don't have to pay for some HS kid to wander around the parking lot looking lost.
Aldi is now going into 'upscale' neighborhoods and it is one of the fastest growing grocery chains in the country.
Every time I've gone to Aldi they are incredibly efficient at moving the lines fast. Considering the quantity people usually buy it's fairly impressive. If I'm not waiting for someone ahead of me the checker is sometimes faster at scanning than I am unloading the cart. When the checker doesnt have to bag and the bar code on the products is large and on every side of the packaging it makes it easy to speed along.I went to Aldi a few months back; I just now got through the checkout line![]()
Seriously though, it's better than it used to be, but I'm not sure why they waste the store real estate on more than 1 or 2 registers.
I don’t know if other HyVee’s have the parking for electric cars like the Urbandale one does, but in the history of time has anyone ever seen someone parked there and using it as intended?
The Albrecht family is insanely wealthy. In the mid 2000s the living founding brother brother was I think the third wealthiest person in the world. This is correct. Aldi also owns Trader Joe's. I always park near those when I go to get beer and I've seen a few Nissan Leafs plugged in. I've never seen a Tesla parked there and I don't even know if those work with Tesla's?
Just looked it up, some Hy-Vee's have Tesla Supercharges but the ones at Urbandale are not.
You can hook up a Tesla to them with the J-1772 adapter, but you're correct that they are not actual Superchargers.
Couple of dumb questions
- Is that adapter something you can carry around or is this something that's built into the "pump"
- How much does a place like this charge you to "fill up"?
I own an electric car and I've parked in those very spaces and charged. So, the answer to your question is yes.
Cool story broI worked at a Joyce's grocery store in H.S. They closed 2 decades ago.
Well apparently there is one in Louisiana.
