hopefully they can atleast find a way to keep drake on the schedule, either all home game or maybe even a 2 home and one at Wells Fargo.
A 2 home and one at Wells Fargo with Iowa and Drake would be the best scenario moving forward IMO
Same. I've gone the past few years but the environment always seemed to be low energy with the different fan bases shifting in and out only staying for one game.
I get it why we went away from home and homes with UNI and Drake, but I always really enjoyed that scenario best. I'm a person that loves having 4 Division 1 college basketball schools in the state and see the value of the interplay between them. Therefore, I'm hoping for maybe a 2 home and 1 away scenario to be agreed upon with both UNI and Drake.
Yeah, its kind of weird, but honestly, the Knapp Center is not that bad of an arena for a team like Drake. For their size schools, both Drake and UNI have great places to play when compared to their peers.
I could always count on my shooting numbers going down at the Knapp center when I played AAU tournies there. It’s also harder to throw long passes and lobs there imo. Something about the colors mixing with the lights and the way the ceiling seems to sit lower than it is messed with my spatial awareness.
The annoying part about this setup is the crowd of 70% anti-ISU people. Iowa and UNI would team up and cheer against us no matter what.
Possibly but it’s no longer in use for basketball. I also never played basketball in a large bubble dome like that but I can imagine how terrible it would be!
Beat me to it. I can't recall Iowa State ever playing well in the dome. That was just a god awful setup.
Played football there twice...worst air to play in and that was late season when conditioning wasn't a concern.
I would never feel comfortable shooting there.
I wouldn't mind alternating between @drake and @UNI on the years that Iowa is at hilton. gives us a road game but not have to travel far.
I don't believe this to be true at all. Theoretically, I could see how one could think this, but I find the reality to be much different. For one, on-average, I feel like at least 50% of the crowd overall is usually ISU people and even more so when you factor in that many Iowa fans don't go to the ISU game and vise versa. Also, for all those UNI and Drake fans, I find them to be more neutral and non-caring on their off-game than you might think. I've been there now to many years of this thing and this has been my observations.
I think we should forget UNI they appear to be on the down slide as a program and I think Jacobsen eventually leaves. Go down to Drake every other year and keep locking Des Moines down. Put UNI on the schedule like you schedule any other crappy non-con game and make them come to Hilton. They need money anyway.
If anyone owes UNI anything it's Iowa. Fran's recruiting has absolutely killed the Panther's.
Truer words never spoken. Put Pemsl and Kriener (who were both down to UNI and Iowa) on UNIs roster to go with Pickford, Green and Brown and UNI wins the Valley this year.
I say this as about as diehard of a UNI fan that exists but the Golden Era of UNI Athletics is over. Bad AD hire (Dannen) and unrealistic budget expectations (compared to our peers) pulled all the momentum out of our programs and we're a mid-level Valley team for the foreseeable future. UNI is never again going to reach the heights of the 07-16 period.
As far as the in-state games, I really hope that two or three years from now everybody looks back and realizes how special and unique those games were and whether we go to a 2 for 1 setup or some kind of Ames/IC neutral set up or whatever. I'm not naive enough to think that the true H-H are ever coming back.
