How we will replace Royce, Scott, and Allen

I just assumed that Percy would go into beast mode and average 35 PPG and 13 RPB. I am a big Gibson fan and had to take my bias out of this projection, otherwise I would have put him at 40 PPG

If Gibson can give us 10 and 6 (along with playing some decent D), and Book can give 6 + 4, this team is going to be pretty good.

I don't see any reason why these two can't put up those kinds of numbers.

I have to give it to you, nallen - you are one passionate fan, but I think you are making this too black and white. As acg pointed out our defense will be better on the perimeter. This is going to be maybe the biggest team difference we will notice this year from last year's team.

I'm not sold that "x" number of players have to get "x" number of stats compared to the guys we lost. I think you will surprised how the numbers are picked up by the team.

I'm a numbers type of guy more than an intangibles type of guy. In my opinion stats tell at least 75% of the story.

This team will play defense. Between Scotty and Royce the only defense played was at Taco John's OLE special. That will be the defense. Clyburn and Lucious will score. The rest of the guys will be good too. If Percy got bigger and stronger look for a great sophomore campaign out of him.

Losing Royce, Scott, and Allen we lose 38 pts, 15 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block per game.

In my opinion this is how we will replace all these statistics:

Clyburn will get 15 pts, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal per game.

Lucious will get 8 pts, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal per game.

Niang will get 6 pts, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist per game.

Booker will get 3 more pts per game, 2 more rebounds per game, and 1 more block per game. A total of 7 pts, 6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Gibson will get 3 more pts per game, and 2 more rebounds per game. A total of 8 pts and 4 rebounds per game.

Babb will get 2 more pts per game, and 1 more assist per game. A total of 10 pts 3 assists per game.

Tyrus will get 2 more pts per game, and 1 more assist per game. A total of 10 pts 2 assists per game.

I don't think there will be much change in Ejim's or Bubu's stats.

So the overall stats will look like this:

Clyburn: 30 mpg, 15 ppg, 7 rpg, 2 apg, 1 spg
Babb: 30 mpg 10 ppg, 4 rpg, 3 apg, 1 spg
Lucious: 30 mpg, 8 ppg, 2 rpg, 5 apg, 1 spg
Ejim: 25 mpg, 9 ppg, 7 rpg, 1 apg, 1 spg
McGee: 20 mpg, 10 ppg, 3 rpg, 2 apg, 1 spg
Booker: 20 mpg, 7 ppg, 6 rpg, 1.5 bpg, 1 spg
Gibson: 20 mpg, 8 ppg, 4 rpg, .5 bpg
Niang: 15 mpg, 6 ppg, 3 rpg, 1 apg
Bubu: 10 mpg, 4 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, .5 spg

Unfortunately I think we are going to realize Royce had a much bigger impact than just stats. And I am not sure we have anyone that replaces that. That said, I still expect a great year. Just different.

I think this is going to be a much different team. I think it will be an even more athletic team, and a better offensive and defensive team over last year's.

The only concern I have at all with this team is rebounding. If they can get the defensive rebounds, then I can see this being a fast-breaking team that can keep pace with most anyone in scoring.

Lucious will average 12+ pts and 5-6 assists. And that's my low estimate.

Will has the potential to be an 18+ ppg scorer in Freddy's system. They think VERY highly of him as a go-to scorer.

Babb will never be a "great" scorer, so he'll see a little bump but not much. Tyrus will definitely see a bump but not a huge one because he'll have some huge scoring games and some very low scoring games.

Niang will surprise everyone with how much he'll score as a freshman.

I'm really hoping Booker can become a better scorer in the post. I have confidence he'll continue to be a great long range threat, but I want him to be a scoring option each and every game from the post. He DOES have the talent, skill, and strength to do it. Mentally he has to want it and the coaches have to get it out of him.

Ejim will keep improving as a scorer also. He just works so dang hard, it's awesome.

We aren't so much replacing these players, as we are the whole system. Cyclones will look way different next season because Fred opperates by putting his best players on the floor and making a system in which they can succeed, and having a monster who plays point and eats people is not something we will have next season.

Clyburn averaged 17 pts playing 35 minutes in the mountain west. He won't play 35 minutes a game and it's the big 12. His production will not be as high as it was at Utah because we have other people that can score unlike Utah. He will still average a lot that's why i notched him at 15. Lucious averaged 4.8 in 17.5 minutes a game over his 3 years at Michigan State. Chris Allen's scoring increased by over 50% when coming to Iowa State from Michigan State so i increased Lucious' minutes to 30 minutes per game and increased his production by 50% which is 7.2 pts a game. That's why i gave him 8. No way he will score close to 12 pts or more a game. He will score 10 at the maximum.

12 and 6 for Lucious? No way. If he averages 12, I think he is not doing his job considering all the scoreres he will have around him. Plus if he is scoring 12, he is probzbly taking 8-12 shots from the field. Not sure this is what Freddie wants.

But Clyburn is older now and he is playing with a better quality point guard.

Agreed him and Lucious will gel very well this year since they played together for the past year. But Clyburn also will be playing in a better conference and be playing with better players around him. He won't need to score as much as he did at Utah.

Niang: 15 mpg, 6 ppg, 3 rpg, 1 apg
Bubu: 10 mpg, 4 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, .5 spg

Numbers-wise, I think they can be replaced if guys like Gibson and Niang, or Babb and Clyburn can produce 80-90 percent of the scoring/toughness/leadership Royce and Scotty gave us. I think Babb/Lucious/Clyburn & Co. will be fine splitting up Allen's shots between them, and I think the defense/rebounding will take care of itself because we were small last year and we'll be small again this year. With all that said, we did lose a lot of our heart. Royce and Scotty played with a certain fire that carried us at times, and at this point, I'm wondering who will step into that role, or if we have anyone that can. I think it's important for a young team to have something like that. Will it be Babb? Clyburn? Maybe one of the younger guys?

Clyburn will make up for about half of Royce's 2 pt shots and will make up for Scott's 3 pt shots. Lucious/Babb/McGee will make up for Allen's 3 pt shots. Then Booker/Gibson/Niang will make up for the other half of Royce's 2 pt shots.

Clyburn will make up for about about 75% of Royce's rebounds. Booker/Gibson/Niang will make up for the other 25%. Lucious will make up for Allen's rebounds. Babb/McGee/Bubu will make up for Scott's rebounds.

Lucious will make up for 100% of Royce's assists. Clyburn will make up for Allen's assists. Babb/McGee will make up for Scott's assists.

Booker/Gibson/Ejim/Niang/Clyburn will make up for Royce's defensive presence. Babb/McGee/Lucious/Bubu will make up for both Scott and Allen's defensive presence.

Lucious will take over the leadership role as far as being vocal and motivating and guiding our team. Clyburn will take over the leadership as the best producer on the team and as our go to guy.

So overall Clyburn and Lucious will take over for the majority of what Royce, Scott, and Allen did. Then collectively guys that played last year are going to have bigger roles this year and are going to have to produce a little bit more.

I LOVE ISU basketball, but it always amazing me how some of you can maintain such focus on basketball as the football season is just getting underway and taking center stage.
