to resurrect the baseball program at Iowa State? I was just curious if anybody had any insight as to how much it cost to run the program from year to year and what the costs would be if the program was given a 10 year run. I am embarassed and think it is completely Un-American not to have a baseball team at one of the best universities in the U.S.

I think the biggest problem might be that you would have to resurrect the baseball program AND add another women's program for Title IX.
You might ask Jamie, he's a CPA and has a very firm grasp of the numbers involved and the federal requirements concerning equality of the women's programs.
I'd rather see them add hockey, personally, but baseball would be more of a "Big 12 sport" I suppose. That baseball field isn't in the greatest of shape though, is it?
Cap Timm field is in horrible shape these days. Would take money just to renovate that too: Offenburger.com
And put a dome over it and heat it just so we wouldn't have to take the entire team south just to practice!
If Nebraska can compete without a dome I'm sure you all could as well.
Baseball isn't a huge money maker but it would be great to see you all bring it back.
From the pictures in the link posted above it looks like you all would have a pretty nice facility if you built some stands, lights, and fixed it back up.

I thought I heard JP had some plan to bring back the baseball program, but obviously that hasn't gained any steam. And as for the Title IX thing, I thought the number of total scholarships had to be the same for men and women, not necessarily the number of programs. And since the football program grants so many scholarships, it means fewer men's programs.
i really wish we still had baseball. but cap timm is awful. after uni's program ended. the trolls have the only program in iowa for DI baseball. dang.
Nebraska is a whole different story. They can afford to subsidize their baseball program from the money they make off of football. They can also afford to spend a lot of time in Florida practicing and playing pre-season. That's a bit much for our athletic dept budget which is about the lowest in the Big 12.If Nebraska can compete without a dome I'm sure you all could as well.
