Hello from Fort Worth!

I realize I could be setting off a firestorm. Technically HP does not serve brisket. The word brisket is replaced by sliced beef. I asked about it once and was told they use sliced tritip instead. Both are awesome if done right, but are very different cuts. If you like HP's sliced beef and want to call it brisket thats cool. I'm sure they appreciate when people call it brisket, because thats what they want people to think it is.

Yeah, this is right. I was wrong calling it brisket in my earlier post. They must not do it right, or else it sucks as a cut of meat. I use to always get their BBQ because of the repuatation and always walked away dissapointed. Eventually I realized their BBQ sucks and started ordering their burgers and have enjoyed my experience there much more since.

I will continue the HP hate though. How the hell this place is held up as the top of Ames/central Iowa cuisine is beyond me. It's embarrasing. The myth that Hickory Park is the best we have to offer has to stop! Vive la resistance!

The ISU DFW alumni club is hosting a tailgate at Paschal High School parking lot on Saturday. Should be a good time.

As far as bars go after the game... really anywhere on West 7th. Reservoir, Texas Republic, America Gardens, Kung Fu Saloon or Whiskey Garden.

OP, you had to mention HP, didn't ya?

Should be a good game, but I think the 11 point line is pretty accurate. ISU is still sorting out Offensive issues. They managed to move the ball last week but couldn't finish settling for two 20 some yard field goals and two 30 some yard field goals to go with their two TDs. Your defensive line will give this Cyclone O-line headaches.

Haha, I don't remember there being this much banter over HP last year. But I'll remember to mention it again next year when I return.

Thanks and welcome WhitehispanicFrog. I have a crew of 7 coming down for the game. What are some of your recommendations for:

Food
Bars (staying in downtown Ft. Worth, but would like to see whatever "campus bars" there are.
Tailgating

Heim BBQ is arguably the best bbq in Fort Worth and definitely Top 50 in Texas. Brisket is on point and make sure to get the bacon burnt ends.

Burger joints to check out would be Rodeo Goat, Fred's, or Kincaids. Dutch's is also good, it's on campus off University drive.

Reata is a great sit-down restaurant in the downtown area with Texas cuisine.

Buffalo Bros is a bar right by campus, but most people hit the bars on 7th street.

For tailgating I'd echo what ACE000087 posted about the ISU tailgate, but if you venture around the stadium you'll find friendly TCU folks that will welcome you with food and/or drinks.

I called Oklahoma pretty accurately. We should've crushed Akron but CMC kept it very vanilla and gave different guys an opportunity.

I watched the replay last night and I agree with this. It was like at halftime, CMC decided we were going to be comfortable so he just wanted to give different guys experience and use it almost as a "let's try this personnel grouping" type thing. It felt like the treated it as if the outcome was never in doubt in the 2nd half. (I think that's why J. Lang got so much playing time).

Also, I don't think we would have attempted the final field goal if Akron's coach hadn't called that last time out. I think it was like "well, you broke the unspoken rule, so now we're gonna add 3 more."

Getting a little off of the OP''s topic, but I was OK with the time out. It forced us to try a field goal. Their only hope with 2 timeouts and 30 seconds left was a blocked FG for a touchdown and then recover an onside kick and kick a field goal of their own to tie it. Stranger things have happened. I thought he was just playing out the game to the end.

The TO didn't really bother me, as there was a faint ghost of a chance, and TB showed his team he wasn't ready to give up. Same with the FG. If things would've gone badly, we would've needed that extra 3 pts.

Good job.

DM and Butler being unstoppable is not accurate.
