Heacock Retiring

Yeah he didn't mention anyone by name, after 43 years he probably didn't want to leave anyone out so it was easier to not include any names rather than forget someone. If he started listing off everyone he's worked with that positively affected him he would need another 20 tweets probably.
Exactly it. From what I know of him, he's the type of guy that would want to thank everyone. He still speaks fondly of lessons he learned all the way back to Jim Tressel at Youngstown 30+ years ago. Not mentioning anyone specifically is a big nothing burger here.

I got to know Coach Heacock a little bit shortly after he arrived in Ames. Everyone knows how great of a coach he is. I just wish everyone knew that he is an even greater human being.

Jon Heacock is the definition of humility. He led our players by example, which is the best form of leadership. We've been so incredibly blessed to have him.
Great post! I saw Heacock at a small town HS football game scouting an ISU recruit. I acknowledged him & he seemed a little hesitant at first, but we had a nice visit & didn't even discuss ISU football. Genuine and kind man.

It was hilarious to me that no one else even recognized him, which I think he appreciated...

I've shared this story before but I worked for the football team during college: Rhoads last two years and Campbell's first two years.

My senior year, the game attire for the entire coaching staff and all the way down changed from khaki pants to a specific Nike gray pant. For whatever reason, the four people in my role had to pay for our own. Went to go pick them up for the equipment room and asked what I owed and how do I pay. Got told Heacock ended up paying for all of ours. Before practice started that day, I went to go thank him, cause as a college kid without a real paying job, the $90 or whatever they were pants was not a fun unexpected purchase. He put his arm around me and said "Cyfan13, some day in whatever profession you end up in, you'll be able to take care of people that do the dirty work to make you look good. All I ask is that you pay it forward when you're able."

Just one of the best dudes there is in the coaching business. Glad he retired a Cyclone

Good on him.

Sad that it ever got to that point.

Pretty cool you had a close enough relationship that he felt comfortable shortening your name like that.

Come on guys...MC brought Heacock here...kept him here...no doubt other programs reached out to JH over the years! JH obviously wanted to be here and wanted to coach with MC! MC brought him here and kept him here! Just be happy for JH getting to leave the game on his own terms...don't bring any hatred to anyone over this announcement...feels petty!

Hope to Hell this would still not be the case given all the $ flying around elsewhere.

Coach, if you're reading this thank you for all you have done for this program, enjoy retirement!

As much as I'd like Coach Rogers to run his own show, keeping the Campbell era Victory Day going as a Cyclones tradition is important to us! Can you make it happen?

Nothing but respect for that man.
Any newer fans that didn't know ISU football before him and had to suffer the crazy blowouts and beatings that we took may never know how great it was to have him.
Anybody else remember those games during the Rhoads era when the defense would give up 38 points and 440 yards and we were talking about Burnham like he was a wizard?

And to be fair, I thought Burnham was a pretty solid DC, but Heacock is next level.

GOAT of ISU football coordinators. Hope he enjoys retirement.

As I reflect on ISU FB under MC…one thing came to mind.

We didn’t blow out many people.

We won a ton of close, low scoring games…even against lower competition.

I don’t think most understand how critical JH was in the past 10 years sucesss. Wonder if pedo state fans do?
