Hope he thinks about staying in Ames. Good man for sure.
Absolutely instrumental in this last ten year run. What he was able to do here was amazing. He's honestly almost as important as Campbell for what occured the last decade. Always seemed like a good human too. Enjoy retirement coach
He was just as important as Campbell was for a decade of football success that I never thought was possible.
Ive been critical of JH lately, but man he did so much with less. Congrats coach, thank you for your 10 years of service.

Kids are around here. Wouldn’t mind him being a part time analyst that helps out. A lot of knowledge there.
Will be interesting to see if his son can stay on in some capacity.

History will be kind to his legacy. A true innovator. Rare that we have any coach retire here, name something after the guy, an award, a facility, something....
A true coach and innovator in every sense of the word. So many in that business are their own hype men. John Heacock proved again and again success is about ability to teach and adapt and trusting what you know works. Happy retirement Coach!

I wonder what percentage of wins were due to the defense and this legend.
Following Bruce and before Campbell, ISU had some memorable football seasons, but we'd always get "blown out" a couple times / year. As illustration, the 9-3 Rosenfels 2000 season included losses to Nebraska (49-27), ATM (30-7) and KSU (56-10). Once Heacock got his defense established, we were competitive with everybody and double digit losses were infrequent. As an ISU fan, it's a feeling I'd never known before - believing ISU could win every game we played. We obviously didn't win every game, but just knowing we could compete with everyone on our schedule was incredible. Thanks to Coach Heacock, who was a massive part of that. Congratulations on your retirement - live well!
Selfishly, I've been hoping for this. I really didn't want him to become PSU's DC. Now we get to keep his legacy all to ourselves. Great man and great coach. I love that he's retiring as a Cyclone.
No mention of Campbell in his farewell note seems telling as well.
