I lived in Hayward for a couple years (2001-2003), unfortunately. Coop's is really good. Other than that I don't remember there being anything memorable..... If you see a very short funny looking guy in his late 30s, ask him if his name is Squeak the Satanic Squirrel.

There was a Troma movie called Blood Hook filmed there in the mid 80s.

We do fishing trips a couple times a year on Namekagon which is closest to the town of Cable WI, about 20-30 minutes north of Hayward WI.

Fishing is amazing, UTV stuff and trails are the best. I would suggest bar hoping from one greasy dive bar to the next. Can’t really go wrong up there. It’s all great.

Duh!
Headed to North Shore on Lake Superior this summer camping in our teardrop. Taking our bikes too.
If you haven’t been, I am happy to recommend some restaurants, breweries, sights, etc..

Maybe someone can refresh my memory, I used to go to this area (Rice Lake, Hayward, Weyerhaeuser, Bruce…we covered a lot of ground going to different bars) when I was younger and drunker. We would go this cool bar along a river first stop. I think the river had a French name but I can’t pull the name of the place or the river.

we've been going there with family for years now (Nelson Lake, specifically). the Moccasin Bar in town is worth a stop. and there's a good candy shop on Main Street, plus a good ice cream shop. there's a nice record store on Main Street too. if you can get out to Nelson Lake, there are some good resort bar/restaurants (Park Island and Bullhead Bob's).

Duh!
We hit it later this summer...any recommendations are welcome!

DULUTH:
I lived in Duluth for a couple years and used to bike, run, ski and golf the North Shore. there are some places to ride and hike at/near Spirit Mountain.

Stop in Duluth and hit the Lincoln Park neighborhood on your way in. Grab BBQ at OMC and then stop at Bent Paddle Brewing a couple of blocks away. Lots of shops, coffee and cider houses on the strip. Duluth Grill nearby may be my all-time favorite breakfast spot anywhere.

if you have time, stop down at canal park and walk around. There are several restaurants and shops to check out. Honestly, most are just okay but the area is very cool.

Fitgers is another good spot to check out. It is in an old brewery building. If you like Mexican food, they have a deck on the back pride with a great elevated view. Be sure to grab a malt at the Portland Malt Shop next door or another pint and sandwich at Sir Benedict’s across the street. It’s an English style pub and both are Duluth institutions.

NORTH SHORE:
Check out Gooseberry Falls, we have had a ton of rain and it should be roaring.
https://exploringnorthshore.com/gooseberry-falls-state-park/
If you’re into history, it is worth checking out Split Rock Lighthouse.
https://www.mnhs.org/splitrock
There are trails you can ride up and down the north shore. If you want some elevation, check out Lutsen Mountain.
https://northshorevisitor.com/things-todo/jackpot-high-climber-bike-trail-from-tofte-to-lutsen/
Be sure to go up to Grand Marais, you won’t think you are in the Midwest anymore, it looks more like Maine. A few places to check out while you are there, including a couple of great state parks/forests.

It is worth check out portions of the Superior Hiking Trail, especially near the Cascade River.

I assume you’ve already done some research but let me know if there are things you are looking to do.

I've been and will go back. Cuyuna trails are amazing. Went riding there with a couple buddies a year ago. My uncle lives about 20 minutes away so it's a place we get to for other reasons. Planning a winter fat bike trip there.
The downtown area is really growing. Lots of new stuff there in the past couple years

Angry Minnow in Hayward is great.

The first Famous Dave’s was located off of Round lake just outside Hayward and was a great spot with a larger/better menu than the rest of the chain. Unfortunately it burned down and corporate didn’t rebuild.

Tally Ho, which is a few miles east of Hayward by Spider Lake is a great place for dinner. Haven’t been in a few years but always had good meals there.

Lost Land Lake lodge (few miles east of Tally Ho) is a fun little spot to grab a drink or two.

I’m most familiar with the Namakagon area just 20-30 miles northeast of Hayward. Bunch of good bars off Lake Namakagon. Would definitely recommend Garmisch for the vibes and the Evergreen to mingle with the locals who have a love/hate relationship with the tourists. I would also recommend Pioneer, Pla Mor and Four Seasons. Lakewoods has a decent facility but it’s lease dive like.

If you really end up loving the area I would recommend Bayfield off of Lake Superior, which has amazing beauty that made me vow to never vacation in Door County again.

Snowmobiling this region in the winter is some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my life.

I believe it's the Maccasin Bar that has the taxidermy of the world record muskie caught on the Flowage. One of my favorite places to fish.
