Harbaugh

yeah. he'd be very dumb not to go to michigan if available.
Why. Just presenting the situation that is somewhat in the ballpark. M offers $5 million)yr for 5 years and Jamie countered with a 10 year deal at $4 million and escalates. Numbers favor ISU.

Look at M's 20 year history - coaches, wins, etc

Do you like the your bosses, AD and Pres?

Chances to win a nat'l title - better at M, but nothing like it used to be.

Can u be your own man at M?

I am not saying he wouldn't go, but times have changed. He is not dumb if he would stay at ISU.

They hired RichRod, albeit it was a bad hire, and Gundy is waaaaayyyyy more proven and has had an acrimonious history with Okie State lately.

Of course Gundy wants out of Stillwater. He's been putting out feelers for years. But the mullet would not play well in Ann Arbor. Rich Rod looked the part. Gundy does not.

You're probably right. He's a brash a hole but he does win, that's the only reason I would think about calling him.

What’s Harbaugh’s buyout? I’m guess it’s huge. And with the financial impacts of Covid, there is a chance that money is a reason they don’t make a move.

But Michigan is one of the jobs that would really worry me with Campbell.

According to the Detroit Free Press in today's story about their meltdown last evening, the buyout is $6.3M. Normally, that would be chump change to Blue, but with ADs bleeding money this year from lost revenue, I would expect Harbaugh back next year. Personally, I hope they keep the arrogant a$$ for ten more years, or until they turn into Big Red, whichever comes first.

And what is Campbell's current buyout?

I don't know why. That's a job that's right up there with Nebraska, USC and Texas in terms of fans so desperate to get back to their glory days no matter how unrealistic of a reality that is. Coaches come and go and things never change at these places.

Texas and Michigan have no big reason not to be good. Especially Texas.

Nebraska's new ceiling is the same or lower than ISU/Iowa and they just don't know it.

Probably unrealistic for any Pac school to think they could hit USC glory days.

Urban would be a machine at SC. He could totally dominate that side of the Country.

And what is Campbell's current buyout?

Not sure the money is the deciding factor for Michigan but rather can BigBlue convince CMC that AnnArbor is the best fit for him.
I think it comes down to what Campbell values. Does he like the environment with the ISU AD? Does Matt and his wife like raising their kids in Ames? Hope so.

I wonder how much Covid has affected things at MI and PSU? Both those teams went from potential Big 10 contenders to KU way too fast. Does MI play Nebraska? A loss there might be the final nail in the coffin.

Why? Have they been good or relevant in the past 20 years? They need to take their medicine just like Nebraska.

Uh, yeah. They have actually. Not even close to Nebraska level of bad. They've been good ol /Michigan. 8-11 wins. Never really contend for a national title, but still pretty solid team. This year? Whoof.

I would be 97% surprised if Campbell was interested in the Michigan job at this time because:
  1. He hasn't finished what he likes doing the best (establishing a sustaining and competitive football program which develops young men of character).
  2. The University of Michigan is not as liberal as Berkley or Stanford but is close and aspiring.
  3. Ann Arbor is not Ames. The cultures of Ann Arbor and environs ranges from far left to far right (remember the Michigan Militia? - - just north of Ann Arbor).

Are we sure coaches are going to get fired this year? Especially well paid ones like Frost and Harbaugh. Athletic Departments aren’t exactly rolling in the dough right now.

Frost and Harbaugh should be hoping the vaccines don’t work out.

In theory you are right. But Michigan will pay someone a lot more than $5 mil. Michigan State had to pay for than that to pry a 5-7 first year head coach in Tucker away from CO. Plus they pay Harbaugh the equivalent of $8-$9 mil per year now, they aren’t stepping back to $5 mil.

Campbell is a guy that needs a couple of years to build culture and bring in players that reflect that. He won’t get that cushion at UM. He’ll have massive expectations in year 1. To me, that’s a bigger factor than anything.
