Gundy

Im not going to blame it all on NIL.

Id be curious of how his relationship is with players. He did have players threatening to sit out a few years ago.

I see Oklahoma State in a similar boat to WVU--not enough NIL to compete with the top teams. While BYU and Texas Tech are going to soar, I think OSU, without Boone Pickens and other teams like VT and WVU, will drop from top 25ish programs into the new "Kansases." Will K-State drop? Will Colorado rise? Houston bought some dudes. In the NIL era, past success means zero. Clemson 1-3 is a perfect example.
Agree, I think this could ve a long term setback to OSU. Their rise was built on T Boone money, a great coach in Gundy, and long term stability with him being there a couple decades. All three of those factors are gone. They could make a great hire to address one of those things, but the other two are awfully hard to replace.

Gundy WAS a great coach. But he clearly hasn’t been even an adequate coach the last couple of years.

It will be interesting to see who they bring in for next year. Oklahoma State has very good, respectful fans. Hope they can find a good coach to make them competitive while still losing to Iowa State

My guess is that AD has recently offered Gundy some retirement/payout package that lets him finish out the year while they look for a new coach. I'd guess Gundy told them to go fly a kite and that he is under contract. So given no other real options they fired him now.

And reportedly donors.

The rumor mill can be wildly off, but along with the claims that the money was there to fire him last year if not for the university president stepping in (who is now gone), there were claims that there were significant donors keeping their money on the sidelines until he's gone.

Wouldn't at all be surprising if he rubbed many donors the wrong way.

If I was their AD I would reach out to Kotelnicki at Penn State. Guy is an incredibly innovative OC. Did very well at Kansas. He’s put in the time as a coordinator

I was wondering about this. It’s been a bad couple years, but Gundy is OSU football; the program isn’t where it is without him (T Boone helps, but you need a good coach to actually win the games). I’d be surprised if they didn’t offer him a graceful exit & a chance to celebrate him.

ESPN had an interesting write up about this story. They ended the story with this:

“Baylor opens Big 12 play against Baylor on Saturday.”

I don’t know why I even bother to read their stories

Crazy what’s happened to that athletic department. Basketball and football very competitive just a few years ago and are now completely disasters.

Cowboy football is a self-evident goat rodeo right now.

I'm bullish on their basketball team, though. Lutz is a good coach.
