They had to switch to artificial turf in Iowa City as their cheerleaders over grazed and were killing the grass.

Very nice chatting with everyone over here; hope the stadium is full and no player injuries. Here are my final thoughts on the game, from an almost 100% Clemson perspective; my gut tells me this will be a close game. Our QB has simply not progressed since game one, and it's difficult to believe this will be his breakout game, just can't see it, even as much as I want it to be. Our defense is solid, but if our O can't sustain a few lengthy drives, I fear the D will wear out. If we don't turn the ball over, if our special teams can deliver, if our O line can open a few holes for our RBs, if our QB can play smart..........so many if's, Clemson might, just might win it. If Clemson wins, I will not come back here and gloat, but if Iowa State wins, I will come back and congratulate you guys, no excuses from me..........have a great time everyone!

At the risk of derailing this thread, I am curious to hear why.Demise of the ACC is overly exaggerated.
The opposite. It won’t likely make another 10 years imo.Demise of the ACC is overly exaggerated.
Every conference can point to down turns.
ACC has been bad the past 2 or 3, but prior to that the big10 was as "bad" as ACC is "now". The 2 or 3 before that the ACC was right there with sec.
Then also comments like "as bad as pac10" is just off. As bad as the acc is this year, not too far off big10 and big12.
IMO - acc, big10, big12 have been about the same. 1 dominant team ... sec would have 2 (their fans act like they have 6).
We can all find things to pick at to show the conference is "better".
ACC will be just fine, and isn't going anywhere was my point.
Maybe it is a bitchy poultry affinityYears ago, Iowa played SC in the Outback Bowl and beat them pretty good; now a lot of Hawks are in love with SC, and often show up on the Gamecocks message board, in a kind of weird love affair...
There is little numerical separation in those strength of schedule numbers. Exactly. There's little difference in the conferences. There is little numerical separation in those strength of schedule numbers. Count me as not impressed with the metric as a useful visualization tool.
ISU grad here who has lived in Cedar Rapids (20 minutes north of Iowa City) for most of my life.
I have enjoyed reading through this thread - didn't realize the parallels between our two universities.
I won't repeat all the examples others have provided, but they are all accurate. Living so close to Iowa City makes it 10x worse.
The one thing I will add is how our local media (TV + print) go out of their way to promote Iowa. It's almost like Iowa has their own PR firm with media.. Objectivity doesn't exist. A great ISU win is always overshadowed by "anything Iowa". On the flip side, anything negative that comes out of Iowa City (eg. racism scandal) is swept under the rug. Local "reporters" ask Kirkkk Ferentz "softball" questions.
Finally, their "fans" are as fickle as they come. One week, they want to fire Ferentz, the entire coaching staff, and their AD. The next week (after beating a crap Big 10 West team), all is well, and they are among the nation's elite. Our local media will build Kentucky up to a point where you swear they are playing Alabama.
I hope for a great game vs. Clemson. Nice to play a "big boy" program.
TV revenues say otherwise. The ACC without Clemson being elite is in major trouble, suddenly becoming also second place regionally in basketball is just another nail.Every conference can point to down turns.

I think Miami made a good hire. Time will tell.Pretty much agree; for a multitude of reasons FSU and Miami cannot not get going again.....

The only question is after this down cycle for the ACC, is will there be enough brands, or any, that add value to the SEC or BIG. Imo it will be a means to an end for the SEC and ESPN.
There are some here who maybe think they know what might happen in the future. The fact is we don't know. Most all of us here hate what might be happening with college football, realignment, potential mega-conferences, etc. What tv revenues suggest the acc is going away? Lol.
I don’t think it’s going away. Viewership numbers is the piece I’ve seen that when stacked up don’t bode the ACC kindly. What tv revenues suggest the acc is going away? Lol.
They need to be coddled so much it’s insane. That fan base thinks if you say something often enough and loud enough then it just becomes true.Has KCRG posted the Iowa-ISU bball score yet?
I went there to check some other stuff and their win over some directional school was front and center.
The ACC, due to a much smaller overall alumni base, will never rival the following of schools in the other power 5. That said the footprint for recruiting has its advantages and unless a school completely abandons even trying they will be players in whatever lies ahead.I don’t think it’s going away.
