Governor shuts down bars in 6 Iowa Counties

It seems like they are trying to stop young people from gathering but strongly believe restaurants should have to close as well. This will just make everyone go to Es Tas and Whiskey River.

IMO it is reasonable to keep restaurants open. In restaurants people are typically seated at a table and don't interact verbally or rub elbows with customers at other tables. Or can avoid doing so to abide by social distancing rules.

I think bars that could promote social distancing should have remained open. Require people to be seated at the bar or a table while consuming drinks. The only problem is most restaurants or bars aren't designed to make money if people aren't packed in.

Not sure why us over here in Linn County got included on that list of 6 counties. Knock on wood, but we've been fairly stable in our cases over here right now and are on the bottom half of counties on a cases per 100,000 people, especially as compared to those other counties on the list. Maybe its just because we have multiple colleges in town.

For those who haven't discovered this NY Times Covid-10 portal, I've found it to be the best at tracking numbers everywhere whether that be by country, state, or county. Its simple and easy.

I wasn't attempting to get political at all. Was just comparing Linn County to the other 5 counties on the list based purely on data and something isn't adding up. Maybe its just because we have three different colleges in town or maybe its our close proximity to Johnson County, so we have the potential to surge in that age range. That's just a guess.

Then they needed to be much more careful when reopening. I'm sure a lot of them were, but the downtown Des Moines bars have been packed from the pictures I see.
Yeah pretty much all of downtown Des Moines has been a disaster every weekend.
