I'm looking to get some windows replaced. I've contacted a few places and am getting estimates. Anyone out there recently have some windows replaced? If so who did you use and why?

Also any suggestions on where to get reviews for companies?

Thanks!

Spent last two months gathering quotes and looking at actual work product. Going with Central Iowa Builders. Doug McCauley is owner. Great price for product, great references, work samples I saw were very good. Will be installing windows and new patio slider in May.

Good luck.

We had our four double-hung basement windows replaced by Window World of Des Moines, including swapping one out to an egress window, a few years ago (they did our siding last year as well). They look great, have held up excellently, were very affordable, and they got all four replaced in one morning. We've been quite happy with the work they've done for us and would choose them again (if we had anything left for them to do).

Beisser Lumber. They partner with us on all of our home, industrial and commercial builds. Great quality.

Don't get a cheap vinyl variety unless you're moving in the near future. Our first home came with Milguard windows and they were horrible. Despite their 'lifetime guarantee" we replaced most of them with Pella wood framed/aluminum clad. The quality difference is striking

You'll get what you pay for, but find a good installer (not company, but individual installer) that is 50% of the challenge and will determine how effective your new windows endure the elements over time

A house across the street from me had Window World do all the siding, soffits and windows about 10 years ago and it still looks good.

Doing yourself, or hiring out.

I did mine a couple years ago. Got Peachtree from Menards in Clive. Peachtree is since out of business and Menards was horrid to work with.

If I could've got them in time (or was hiring out), I would've gone with Marvin windows.

Testifying
I know its an Iowa product but we have lived in our house for a few years now and when we bought it, it was less than 10 years old, and almost all the Pella windows are terrible.
My parents remodeled their house about 15 years ago, so for a comparable time frame, their Anderson windows are miles better than ours.

I've had Pella windows in my home for 20 years without issues. Great product IMO.

I've been doing exteriors for 14 years and roughly 9 out of 10 windows that go bad are Pella, from my experience. But, my parents had some Andersen's installed about 10 years ago and they are already going to crap so who knows, I guess. My sister had her house done with Andersen Renewal (strictly replacement). They seem nice, but they were expensive.

Give this guy a PM. He's starting my window project next week.

Alcyclone

He's been great to work with so far and a big Cyclone fan.
