You know what blows, though? Warming up and unburying your car and scooping your driveway when you get back. Had that happen on my honeymoon to Key West. Came back from 80 degree days to about 8" snow. Got home and couldn't pull in my driveway until I had scooped it. That sucked.
I'm counting on my neighbors to clean that crap up. I mean, why wouldn't they do that for me after I've been trash-talking the ones that aren't going anywhere about our tropical getaway?

Sunday morning we were talking to a retiree that had just returned from a trip. She said they were in temps in the 80s 48 hours before. It was in the negative teens so we realized they had gone through ~100 degree swing in those 48 hours. Needless to say her husband was home under the weather.

I was in Sydney this last January. It was 90 degrees when I took off at 9 am. Within a day or two of my arriving home it was below zero. My poor system was sooo confused.

My understanding is that polar vortices will become more common as the Arctic continues to warm. Seems backwards but I guess look forward to more of this.

Regular exercise and being busy has helped a lot.......though now it's starting to get annoying because I want to do a race end of April but I haven't been able to run outside since about Christmas. And the 10 day forecast isn't great.

It could always be worse - I have an office job with a heater which beats being out feeding calves.

I am a fly fisherman and I tie flies. Tying up a dry fly in my tying room makes me feel like it is summer time with rising fish all around, even when it is -20 with wind blowing. That and booze....

Natural gas bill arrived yesterday. Got me curious and checked the last three months and for Dec/Jan/Feb it averaged $133/month. Damn good considering the low temps and me being home all day. Good that gas is cheap right now I guess. Also saved money on car petrol (and hotel and ticket) because every single time I contemplated driving to Ames for a game it snowed. I should probably buy you all beers or something.

As a mailman, I held up a white flag over a month ago. Nobody saw it, it was like camouflage in this $4!¥. I have heard the Cardinals singing but I am anxiously awaiting the first Robins arrival!

Is there at least a silver lining to this horrible winter? Will this lessen the amount of mosquitoes or anything like that? Probably not, but someone help me out here.

There was an article going around saying the polar vortex would kill a bunch of emerald ash borers, but i think an Iowa State entomologist said that was false. With the amount of snow cover all winter, it likely made it easier for bugs to overwinter
