Terrible news I saw on twitter. As fans most of us forget these are all young men trying to live out their dreams and better their futures. Sadly this young man will not get this chance. RIP.

I’m not saying it’s at all the case here because I have no idea but I think a lot of time it’s on purpose.

Was it in a vehicle? I grew up fairly close to train tracks that were crossed often. There have been a few instances where people were blinded by tall corn and honestly didn’t see the train. This was before the crossings had the lights on them (rural area). After the accidents they all have lights now. Accidents happen. However if he was walking then suicide could be a cause.

Man, prayers for whoever was the engineer on that train. I’ve always wondered how awful that would be. To see likely death coming but really not able to do a thing about it.

Not trying to start a firestorm, just curious about this:

"According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, a freight train hit Gowdy early Monday morning in his hometown of Deerfield Beach, Florida. Gowdy, 17, was taken to Broward Health North Hospital, where he died. BSO homicide detectives are investigating. The cause and manner of death will be determined by Broward County's medical examiner's office."

Do homicide detectives always investigate cases like this? Or is there a different crew that handles what appear to be obvious accidents or suicides? I don't know much about law enforcement.

There are lots of accidental hits by train. Too many people are distracted by their phone or have head phones in. A lot of people also think they'll hear the train, but surprisingly you don't hear it til it's right up on you.

They also are underestimated for their speed vs. their size and distance from the intersection.

When we lived in Chicago, there would be a few people each year who would wait for a suburban train to go by, then get hit by one going the other direction as they tried to cross both sets of tracks. It didn't help that the trains run forward on the left side.

Ya an acquintance of mine got super drunk and got hit by a because of essentially this.

It mostly happens to commuters who are just in a hurry and don't look both ways. You don't hear the second train coming from the other direction when you have another train right next to you pulling away.
