Game Thoughts: WVU

I thought it was a clean drop too until I saw the broadcast. Defender absolutely got a fingertip on it. Whitver mentioned on the postgame show how difficult those really are to haul in and I’ll give him a break there. Largely I think we just wanted to see a much larger step forward from him this year, fair or not. Our expectations likely just got away from us a bit.
Thanks, I thought it was but couldn’t confirm. Expectations for a few players ended up being too much. Hopefully, they all take steps forward next year.

Agree with everything except the last paragraph - They were line drive rugby style punts and the coaches tell them if they can't be caught cleanly just let them go. Also, this is the exact reason so many coaches like having rugby style punters because they made the punts more tricky to catch.
I get it. But if you have a baller back there (think Josh Lenz) and he catches that line drive you’re looking at a 15-20 yard return with the chance to break one. Purdue’s guy did the same thing against Iowa yersterday. They must have lost a hundred yards of field position after letting punts bounce.

As uninspiring as the first half offense was, the fourth quarter was excellent.

Had a few bad plays of pass protection vs a 3 man rush, but they definitely turned it on late. Getting the running game going really got the OL on the attack. Great to see.

What else can you say about this defense? 7 points in meaningful minutes. This D is so good.
Couldn’t agree more about our defense. I’ve watched JT Daniels a few games this year and he looked good but our defense made him look just awful. Keep in mind that Daniels was a 5 star prospect and had a lot of solid starts at USC and Georgia. I have to believe that was the worst performance of his career….by a lot.

Not sure if anybody has been banned for anything related to him, but if they were I’m sure there were a lot of other issues. The mods are very conservative about banning anybody and always have been. It usually takes a LOT of things over time with repeated warnings.

Because he has different political beliefs than most of this board, and people don’t like that

No, it’s because the guy is grade A *******. Either side should, and key word should here, be able to tell that by his words/actions. I’ll probably get this removed or banned because of it.

Good game yesterday. Offense was good enough. Dekkers did look much better though. We still have too many 3rd and short, 4th and short situations that should have just been converted on the previous play with slightly better play design/execution.

I would be curious what @brentblum thinks is truly needed to keep our key guys for next year. I know Brent and Chris have talked about how important the next 2 months will be but I’m wondering if we are even in the ballpark of what we think is needed to at least try and compete with what they’ll most certainly get elsewhere.
Honestly, I wonder if some of this NIL stuff is overblown.

Players were always getting paid, and probably similar to the amounts offered by most schools.

Biggest difference now is Bryce Young appearing in Dr. Pepper and Nissan national ads.

Beyond that? Many players still value playing time and the spotlight. Hunter going to UT for basketball doesn't appear to be the norm.
