Funniest Stand up comics

If it's only seen live then I'd have to say the best were...Fluffy, Bobby Lee, Iliza Shlesinger(also the hottest), Nick Swardson.

Top three I want to see live...Katt Williams, Jim Jefferies and of course Gaffigan.
 
Jim Jefferies is the best one in the game today. Fully Functional and BARE are absolutely hilarious.

Note: If you are really religious, make sure you can take a joke before watching Fully Functional.

I think his stuff is hilarious, he just doesn't have much of it so he recycles everything. That's a fine strategy when you're touring because you're not going to get many repeat customers but when he's putting out multiple dvd's plus the Blue Collar dvd's I've heard nearly every funny joke he's got in his arsenal at least twice.

I will say the first time i heard his 'drunk in a bar in new york city' routine, I had tears I was laughing so hard.


As for the topic at hand, I haven't seen anyone famous live but the funniest act I've seen was Chris Rock's.
 
I enjoyed David Cross live a lot.

I haven't seen them in person, but I really enjoy John Mulaney (his act, not his TV show), Louis CK, and Aziz Ansari.
 
I haven't seen many big name comics live. I was pleasantly surprised by Rob Schneider when I saw him. I saw Carlin a couple years before he died and barely laughed. He was so bitter at the end of his career. It just felt like one long ****** off rant.

Gaffigan would be great to see, as would the Sklar Brothers. Hedberg would have been awesome

I get the greatness of Bruce Pryor and Murphy and Carlin, but IMO they just opened the door for better comics. I think they are definitely the most influential of all time.

I know my eyes were opened seeing Seinfeld and Chris Rock and Chappelle and all those great guys preform in a 30 person club and most of the people were watching were comedians taking notes and punching up the jokes for them before tour ect. I realized that most of the great comics are writers and most of the great performers weren't actually the funniest people. People like Bonnie McFarlane who most people don't know actually wrote a ton of the jokes that people do know. But no big deal, just like music and everything else.

I'm not familiar with Bruce Pryor.

I thought Bill Cosby was pretty funny until I blacked out. The drink was good.
 
I'm fairly easy to please so I've liked just about every one I've seen, including Pauly Shore which surprised me.

The one comic I saw that I didn't like was Dane Cook. This was when his HBO special first came out and I saw it on there. Just not my cup of tea apparently.

I watch a decent amount of stand-up on TV/Netflix, but haven't gotten out to see too many live. That being said, John Oliver was pretty great when came for VEISHEA, I think in 2008.
 
If you haven't seen it yet, try to find a place to watch "Talkin' Funny" It's Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK, Chris Rock, and Ricky Gervais sitting around for an hour just discussing the "art" of being funny, how they craft their jokes, what makes them laugh, what they will and won't do, etc, etc. It's fascinating to watch. And it's also really, really entertaining.

Mulaneys Tom Jones story had me in tears the first time I heard it

It's really too bad his show got cancelled. My wife and I loved it. His crude humor is great. He takes it right up to that edge.
