Friday OT - Dear Abby

Dear CF,

We have a 10 month old son who has been at daycare since 4 months. He has had 2 double ear infections, pink eye, RSV, bronchiolitis, stomach flu, several colds with temeperatures. Taking him out of day care has been eating up our time off at work. Those who have been through this before, any suggestions?

Are there bubble boys anymore? I remember that there were a couple that you always heard about when I was young.
I don't think there have been any since John Travolta decided to leave his bubble.

Seriously though, about 90% of children diagnosed with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) are successfully treated with bone marrow transplants.

Please share your questions to the "Dear CF" advice column. PLEASE KEEP IT PG, but otherwise - have at it. Perhaps we can take turns give each other advice, IDK, I haven't really fleshed this idea out.

Dear CF,

My 5-year-old will only eat "white toast with white butter" (ergo, toast racist) and won't wear pink, purple, or any clothing he deems "girly" (clothes misogynist). To where should we move to help prevent him from growing up to be a member of the food KKK or a cereal killer? Thanks in advance.

Cordially,
No, I'm Not Proud of the Pun

It's a phase they'll grow out of it.

Dear JLH,

Don't feel bad, while I may have replaced you, I'm sure I will be replaced someday myself. In fact, when you type my name in, nobody ever posts the first gif of me that comes up. When its the first, it must be the best but noone ever uses it. JLH, can you tell me why no one uses that gif of mine?

Hugs and kisses,

BW
No one uses that gif because it's the special one that only relates to jcyclonee and Rob Lowe.

Bronchiolitis ******* blows. Landed us in the PICU last spring. Then we got home and the next three Wednesdays he was home for double ear, pink eye, and then I think random vomiting. Just had pneumonia last week (4 days of no daycare) and crazy busy at work.........I brought muffins to a team this morning to try and purchase my way back to their good graces for the work I caused them. I feel your pain. Greatly.

It does seem to get a bit better after a year but not great yet. Suggestions.......call in grandparents when you can (never works for us). Petition your daycare to let pinkeye kids attend. It's stupid to call out for that and minor temps imo. Try to take half days and/or split with spouse. So last week one of my days I was able to get some emails and stuff done during nap or play time so I counted half day. Another time we've done it where both DH and I are home and we trade off taking time to work. That's all I got. Pray for springtime I guess.

ETA: seeing other responses........I'm guessing you're in a center like me which is worse germ wise than a home situation. I don't think that's excessive for what, 8 monthsish? I used 7 full sick days for our kid last year and that was my portion and we split about evenly. We had a couple doubled up with the PICU but that's still probably about 10-11 sick days. Think our ped said expect something stupid like 10+ viruses the first year.
