Question... did they ever show Hakeem before the game was over and Houston had won?? I hadn't seen him during the game, but I wasn't watching the whole game.

Reason being... they were showing Coach K in the crowd.. and Jim Nantz in the crowd, etc. I never saw Hakeem until the game was over.

Hakeem > Coach K

Flagg guarding Cryer seemed brilliant much of the game but I wonder if chasing the smaller player gassed him.
Flagg should have driven to the basket instead of pulling up for a jumper. He would have either made the shot or a foul would had been called whether he was actually fouled or not. Pulling up for a jump shot is not his strength. If he wants to be the next LeBron, he needs to significantly improve his shooting.

Really impressed by Houston, for most of the game felt they were walking a tightrope and about to fall off. But they believed in themselves and challenged each other to keep competing.

Would love to know what the conversation was between Roberts and Cryer going into a TO late in the game. It was right after Houston had a couple bad offensive possessions and settled for outside shots.

It's interesting how things ended up. ISU was 14-1 and ranked # 2. Houston was 12-3 and ranked # 10. Auburn, Duke and Florida were all ranked in the Top 5 in that same poll.

Problem with ISU is we didn't have the kind of depth that Houston, BYU, TTU and Arizona had. We also didn't have good enough rebounding to overcome a bad shooting night.

Some National Championship Game Tidbits
  • This will be the first time that Florida has played Houston in the tournament.
  • This will be the 8th time that the SEC and Big 12 will face off in this tournament. That is a record for the most time that two conferences have faced each other. SEC has won 4 of the 7.
  • This is the 11th time (out of 46 tournaments) that the Championship Game will feature two #1 seeds.
    • 1982 - North Carolina d. Georgetown
    • 1993 - North Carolina d. Michigan
    • 1999 - UConn d. Duke
    • 2005 - North Carolina d. Illinois
    • 2007 - Florida d. Ohio State
    • 2008 - Kansas d. Memphis
    • 2015 - Duke d. Wisconsin
    • 2017 - North Carolina d. Gonzaga
    • 2021 - Baylor d. Gonzaga
    • 2024 - UConn d. Purdue
  • Big 12 has faced the SEC one other time in the Championship Game. Kentucky defeated Kansas in 2012.
  • Houston is in their 3rd National Championship Game, Florida is in their 4th.
  • Both coaches will be going for their first title. This is the 2nd time in 3 years that has happened.
  • If Houston wins, then Florida will be the 3rd team in 4 seasons to defeat the Defending Champ and lose to the Eventual Champ.
    • 2022 - North Carolina defeated Baylor, but lost to Kansas.
    • 2023 - Arkansas defeated North Carolina, but lost to UConn.
  • Houston currently has the most Final Fours without a Championship. This is their 7th Final Four. If they win, then Illinois and Oklahoma would have the most with 5.
  • If Houston wins, then Duke will tie Kansas for the most times losing to the eventual champion with 13.

College basketball, and college sports in general, need Houston to win on Monday. The SEC or BIG winning another natty doesn't help the narrative. I'm sick of this inequal TV $ BS and want to show that the Big 12 is indeed the best basketball conference in the country.
The ironic thing is that the Big East, ACC or Big XII have produced all of the NCAA MBB Champions since 2013!

You have to go back to 2012 (Kentucky) for an SEC NC or 2000 (Michigan State) for a B1G NC.

The Big XII-ACC-Big East defintiely hold some NCAA MBB Championship Cachet!

Bears repeating three stats from last night;
Dukes center no rebounds last 10 minutes,
Flagg 5 points last 10 mnutes
Duke 1 field goal last 10 minutes.
Championships aren’t won with that.
Will shoutout Roberts for Houston. He made the plays down the stretch.

Houston scored 25 points last 8 minutes. That is about what they scored the entire first half.

It was a great example of a team just continuing to do what they do no matter how bad it seems and eventually breaking through.

Can you imagine if Texas tech would have beat Florida like they should have? We could have Houston vs Tech in the finals dang it
Exactly what I was thinking . We came close to making it an all Big 12 final and we came close to not having any. Better a bird in the hand than two in the bush.

Houston just kept hanging around and keeping it close, and when Duke gave them an opening, made the plays to win the game. In crunch time at the end, Duke misses a 1 and 1 free throw, while Houston hit their 1 and 1 for two points to take the lead, and then on their second attempt, 2 shots because Duke was over the limit, the kid hit both of them.
You could replay that last 3 minutes 10 times and Duke would win 9 of them, but last night, was the 1 time for Houston. They played an almost perfect game the last 3 minutes and Duke cracked.
