Favorite "Hilton Magic" Moment

Not basketball memories, so they may not technically fall into the category of Hilton Magic, but here are two of my favorites:

1. I've heard that it was absolutely awesome to hear the entire marching band in Hilton when Jack Trice got evacuated before a football game. Wish I had been there.

2. During a 2006 dual women's gymnastics/men's wresting "Beauty and the Beast" meet against Nebraska (when all four teams were in the Top 10), Laura Kay Powell nailed a high scoring floor routine and finished just as an Iowa State wrestler pinned a Nebraska guy. The place exploded in what must be called "Hilton Magic!" I was there for that one and it was incredible.

The Pierre Pierce game two years before that was much better. The "no means no" chants and John Neal putting the dagger in.

This deserves honorable mention. Kid coming of the bench who we didn't know, and everyone screamed "NOOOOOOOOO" when he jacked up a 3. He hit it, we all cheered, but we had a long ways to go. Then he gets the ball again, and nobody in the place wants to see him press his luck again, yet he does and MAKES IT AGAIN!

Became an instant cyclone hero for that season. I think it was a great moment because the social media aspect (msn/aol status's, no facebook yet) was taking off,so everyone was chiming off about John Neal.

The Baylor game last year, no doubt! That was the game they oversold the student section to general admission tickets, and it was a TON of fun. My favorite moment there was Scottie hitting the 3 pointer around the 7 minute mark and the ensuing "Let's Go State!" chant during the timeout that just kept going! My wife, never having seen Hilton like this, was still freaking out every time Baylor made a score. "NOO! They're gonna catch up!" My response: "We won't let them!" And then we'd go right back to yelling our heads off.

Hopefully there are many more moments like these to come.

As far as Hilton being the loudest I can remember that Elite 8 season with Fizer and Tinsley the house was rocking for every conference game. I still have not heard it that loud since. There was 1 moment that season during the Iowa game, we just stuck it to them from the start and Alford had to call an early time out after we went on a torrid run to start the game. It was so loud Michael Nurse was covering his ears then waving his hands like he wanted us to quiet down some and all I could think was "you don't want this to quiet down Mike, welcome to Hilton Magic." The Fizer over Mihm dunk in the Texas game brought the house down too, loud as hell when that happened. I think that was the defining moment of the season when the rest of the country finally realized ISU and Fizer both were for real.

Fast break dunk by Fizer to make it 12-2. Place exploded. Nurse was out near center court, hands over ears, with a "WTF?!?" look on his face. Classic stuff. Too bad the TV cameras probably didn't catch that part.

Was that the one that didn't get played until January for some reason?

I hated Iowa's teams back then, mostly because it was Jeff Horner and a bunch of faceless jags...and I hated Jeff Horner.

The '92 Okie St. game can't be beat. I can't believe how lucky I was to be there when our family used to only go to one game a year when I was younger. It was unbelievable.

I second Baylor last year when Scotty hit that 3 to go up (I think like 62-60 or something around there). The ensuing "Let's Go State" chant that kept itself going gave me goosebumps.
Last year was my first year here and first year attending games. Oh how incredibly spoiled I was!

Was anyone else in attendance the afternoon against K-State when the old guy ACTUALLY hit 5 for 5 to win the car? (1996???)

Maybe the loudest I've heard Hilton....

Seems I remember some of the coaches/players saying they were wondering what the heck happened.

Yes, I was there......unbelievable.....

Several games I've been to......hard to choose which was the loudest....

vs KU 1985
vs KU 1995
vs KU 2012
vs IA 91-92
vs IA 99-00
vs IA 03-04
vs Tx 04
vs Okie St 92
vs NU 01

Big 12 tournament games where the fans did their job...

vs KU 1995 - I had never been so worn out after a game....
vs KU 1996
vs MU 1992
vs Ok 2000

So many great memories in Hilton, it is hard to name just one. It is truelly is a magical place.

The first time I witnessed the magic was Barry Stevens scoring 40 and the Cyclones knocking off Mizzou. Barry could not miss from the corner.

The loudest game I have witnessed was when Lafester scored 54. If you watch the tape of the game on Cyclones.com. notice that Jeff Greyer does not leave the bench when his name is announced for the starting lineups at the start of the game. It was so loud he could not hear his name. They had to announce him a second time. The noise lasted the who game a Lefester just went off on Iowa.

These are just two of the older ones, lets hope there is some magic this year.

To celebrate the beginning of the Big 12 conference slate, I ask this question. What is your favorite or memorable "Hilton Magic" moment?

There has been many to choose from. Scott Christopherson hitting the game winning basket against Oklahoma State is the one that I will always remember.

#1 Iowa vs #2 ISU in wrestling. Banach (already a legend) and Osenbaugh at HWT. We were in the lead 19-14 and all Osenbaugh had to do was not be pinned. This was during a time when we were beating Iowa as much as they were beating us and at this point in time, we actually had more NCAA titles than they did. (times have changed)

Wow......that brought back some memories! I hated the Banach brothers.

Wish ISU could get the program back to that level again. There was a chance with Cael.....
