Extremists

Morgan got us to the NCAA and he had some good players. LE was just as responsible for some of the success he had however.
Morgan left under a cloud and IMO we avoided a lot of problems in the future.
Read the article below as a recap. I know ISU as an institution wasn't directly involved but the whole setup was fishy and the basketball admin helped set it up.
Scandal engulfs Iowa State; officials deny wrongdoing

I completely understand your point, but I also believe that people are entitled to their opinion and that this message board operates solely on differing opinions. If there were not 2 sides to an argument, and people to take extreme positions on these arguments this forum would be pointless. What I dislike is the rampant sarcasm and inability to intelligently discuss someone's concerns. For example, if I were to start a new thread saying "Brian Peterson wouldn't start for any other major conference basketball school" I would not get any type of intelligent counterpoints proving otherwise, but rather I would get 30 people posting smart *** remarks about how stupid I am. If you have an opinin on here, state it. If you dislike someone's opinon provide evidence to the contrary instead of blasting them with smart *** remarks. If you want perfect examples of just that look at the responses to the Dear: Greg thread and the Lucca is a Bust thread. Whether or not you believe it, bring an argument, bring facts or at least bring an opinion...don't just blast someone else for having an opinion.

I think that anonymous people who get upset at other anonymous people over stuff posted on the internet are stupid.

edit: also, it's a bit unreasonable to expect a website with "fanatic" in it's name to have only reasonable people on it...

And it was a helluva lot funner watching Stinson, Blalock, Clark, Homan and Staple than Gmac's teams have been to watch. Much, much more enjoyable style of basketball. Scoring in the 70s to 80's and winning at a higher rate compared to scoring in the 40s to 50s and losing more games? Please, that isn't even a question.
If you simply wanted "fun" and "fast paced", Johnny's teams were the ones to watch, and they at least looked like they knew what they were doing on the floor.

But Eustachy and Floyd slowed it down (the latter especially), and showed that it's defense that wins on the road. And championships.

Of course, Eustachy let off the shackles a bit when a kid named Tinsley showed up--as GMac may do when Colven gets his feet on he ground.

I think your on to something here.

Clonefan, I know this isn't your point and you are just stating an exemple. However the statement may be true, he may not start for any other school. He is the only player on this team that has been consistant and has shown more heart than any other player all season. Every game he has played in as a cyclone he has played against someone who is a better athelete/ player than him. However he continues to be a leader and hustle every second and give it 110%. Why he is not the most talented he is gives the most effort. I wish we could give this quality to our "stars" of the team and we would be MUCH better. Once the effort matches the talent we can go places. Until then, ISU will continue to be overmatched.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

Ditto. It's hard enough to have a reasonable conversation here without having the thread taken over by sarcastic and irrational posts. That problem is magnified on game-day.

I agree. If I do post, I try to post the positives I saw on the court regardless of the outcome.

I think a lot of people just get really angy about the loses and don't have any better way to express themselves so they come to a message board and post ridiculous things to simply vent.

I haven't given up on the MBB season yet. I still think we can do a lot of good things this year. I do think the future is what really excites me. Things are looking up.

I'm willing to have a healthy debate on what good would it do for our program to fire Greg? I can listen to people complain about his coaching ability, but when people start talking about firing Greg, I think they are crazy. Getting rid of Greg this season will set our program back forever. He has one more year to succeed, if he doesn't do it this season, which is still an unlikely possibility.

I don't think firing McD this year is a good idea. For one I doubt we could pay his severance package and still have available funds for another coach. Plus, this sounds bad, but I don't really trust Pollard with another hiring decision at this point.

He'll get through next year at a minimum. IMO he makes the tourney next year and he is our coach for a very long time. However if we don't make the tourney next year I expect a change to be made.

Definitely was not trying to rip on BP...just was throwing out a hypothetical post I could see some of these yahoos putting out there.

Loved the Orr teams as well, but only remember the latter years. I would certainly take winning by any method over any type of play. Just was amazed that someone said they preferred the GMac years over Morgans.... that is basically saying you would prefer more losses AND a slower pace of game compared to Morgan's 3 years as coach.

And no, I dont have anything against GMac and I think he can turn it around next year. But that doesn't mean I have to use revisionist history whenever discussing the Morgan era. It has obviously been better thus far than the Mcdermott era.

Skip down to the * for two sentence summary.

I've got the same feeling as the original poster. I used to be a top 10 poster (posts/day) on this site in it's first year... I LOVED coming to this site for great info and would come back every 5 minutes for any new piece of info and enjoyed sharing my thoughts with others and discussing things.

Now, I come to this site only to weed through 40 posts of (my opinion) crap to find one post of what I used to come to this site for, and I rarely post on here because it's not as fun as it used to be.

I also notice the people who I used to post and discuss with regularly have also lowered their posting to somewhere between now and then and once in a blue moon.

I'm happy for the miserable people of the world have found a new place where people listen to them as they destroy any sign of happiness... but I feel bad for the people who lost their place to enjoy Cyclone Athletics. I feel bad for the people who created this site and built up this great community only to have to deal with ungrateful people who think that they are entitled to make everyone feel as crappy as they do and drive away all of the people who were here enjoying themselves.

Honestly... it feels like this place has been infested with some parasites that just feed off turning a good place into a miserable one and once they drive everyone away who listens to them... they'll move on to some other place.

So I'm going to do exactly what the original poster suggested and not feed the posts that I don't like. Will it work... probably not... but at least it's not my fault.

I just added the first person to my ignore list... something that I thought I would be able to avoid... but I can't stand all the drama that some so called sports nuts bring to this site.

I'm not bashing this site in any way. I thank Jeremy and a LOT of others for making this place a great site, and I'm sorry that there are people that take advantage of the fact that they can be annoying little high school girls.

Please do not mistake some of my sarcastic remarks for drama... I'm not mad or anything, it's just that:

*This site used to be awesome, but it's not what it used to be because of the type of people this thread discusses. I think it's driven so many people away from posting and the community is losing out because of everyone's 'right to complain'.

I know this is not the point of the thread, but Petey would start for the Indiana Hoosiers this year. Man, they should fire Crean for that alone!!

What you're witnessing is the result of a bigger fan base without the results. The natives are restless and CycloneFanatic provides a place for fans to vent, whether we like it or not. I'm 36 and I can't remember a time since the early 80's in which we were so bad at both major sports. We tasted so much sucess 8 years ago and no we have this? Sucks!!!

You have to take the good with the bad. These guys opinions of there team actually count. Because they get upset does not mean that they are bad fans and people should not say stuff back like "we don't need fans like you". First off when did you become the spokesman for saying who ISU needs as it's fans.

So what if they have a passion and are pissed off right now. They should be pissed off right now. The Lucca is a bust thread was pretty dumb. However when someone yells Fire Gmac I get it.

His record is way worse than our previous coach who had the same amount of time. So why won't he be fired. It was his fault for clearing the cupboard when he got here. So what is the excuse for keeping him. I think we should give him one more year but Jamie said when he hired him that a year like Waynes last year would never happen again. Well 3 years since Gmac took the job it has happened.

IMO-Your name seems to fit you well:chatterbox:
