Euro 2020

Good slate today. Hopefully de bruyne can play as it’s fun to watch belgium at their best.

Yann Sommer has been incredible for Switzerland since Freuler went off with a red card.

Penalty kicks upcoming.

No doubt.

Belgium v. Italy is worthy of a semifinal or even a Final. I hope to catch some of this one. Wonder if Italy will revert to their historical stodgy defensive selves and try to win 1-0 or on penalties? As a spectator, hope they play more freely.

My daughter's coach likes to tell the team, "Keep it low. I've never seen anyone miss a PK under the net."

Also, most youth keepers don’t dive low very quickly. There’s a commitment needed to get down hard and fast and I’ve seen plenty of youth keepers who just don’t do it well.

Belgium's defense is not stepping up to any Italian players. Great shots on both goals but heck they were not challenged enough by the defenders.

That was the shittest penalty shootout in memory

Surely I must be wrong since almost every professional player does it, but I hate watching all the herky jerky, momentum shifts the kickers do. I have a hard time thinking of ways to make it harder to put a fast accurate shot on net than pretending like you're having a stroke before you kick it.

LOL at the Italy player that gave his shorts to someone in the crowd and then having a camera focus on him for much longer than they should have.

I agree. I'm sure it's nowhere near as easy as it looks, but as a professional soccer player you'd think you can pretty consistently just blast one into a corner. If they stop that they stop it, but give me that over line-dancing your way to the ball.

It's kind of like watching Giannis shoot free throws. You can't tell me staring at the basket for 15 seconds before you shoot actually helps.

Doesn’t really matter at the top levels. There three options:

1) a make that isn’t getting stopped 99/100 times
2) goalie guesses correctly and saves
3) post miss or straight up miss

It’s easy to dismiss the amount of pressure on a shootout kick. It’s not like a FT to win a game, every player shoots a bunch of free throws through the season.

PKs aren’t that common (relative to minutes of game play) and you usually have the same one or two guys per team that take them. So a bunch of these takers don’t have that much experience with game pressure PKs.

Low is actually what you don’t want, especially if you are a professional that can direct your shot accurately. How many pk’s have you seen saved that are shot at the upper corners of the net?

None but you still see a **** load of misses up even at the highest level.
