Not sure where this belongs, but will there be an ESPN+ basic info posted leading up to Jan for us old guys?

Here's the basics.

ESPN+ is a streaming service and you need streaming capabilities. You need to have good internet.

You will need to pay for a subscription for ESPN+. https://plus.espn.com/
Its 4.99/month or 49.99/year. If you have hulu, you can bundle hulu, disney+ and ESPN+ for 12.99/month.

You will need a smart TV, Roku or FireTV device (or another similar device) in order to stream ESPN+. You may need to download the ESPN or ESPN+ app to your streaming device.

Once you have the ESPN+ app on your device or smart tv, you can log in with your information and watch.

I personally prefer Chromecast, but it has been a bit finicky since the transition from the old WatchESPN App to the ESPN app, which encompasses ESPN+ streaming.
You download ESPN app.
You can sign up for ESPN+ on there.
Then you play the ESPN+ broadcast, and hit the Chromecast icon inside the app, then it will play the game on your TV, via the Chromecast that is plugged into your TV.

I personally think chormecasts are one of the worst out of all the streaming devices. They always seem to be more glitchy and the last to receive updates.

There are many more options for devices beyond just those three you listed:

I have a smart tv with Mediacom but don’t see ESPN + app on choices. It has Hulu app, is that going to be my cheapest way to get ESPN +?

You won't get espn+ through regulaor hulu. What kind of smart TV do you have? I'm assuming you have a smart tv with a mediacom cable box hooked up?

For you Apple TV users, it is only supported on fairly recent models. 1st, 2nd & 3rd (i think) generations do not support the espn app (which contains espn+) any longer.

Just to be clear, this isn't a Hulu issue. It doesn't matter where you get your linear ESPN channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, ESPNU), or if your provider gives you access to ESPN3 or whatever they call their regular streaming package. The ESPN+ service is always a separate package and an additional charge.

I think the biggest problem with this whole Big 12 ESPN+ thing is the that people assume they can get it just because they have ESPN in their TV package. I fear there will be a lot of angry people when the first ISU game on ESPN+ rolls around.

So is the content on ESPN+ ONLY on ESPN + or does it include the stuff that is on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN News, ESPNU as well? And, what about ESPN 8- the Ocho?

you may have to do a software update on your smart tv to get it to show up
or you may have to search for, using the search function on the smart tv

Yes. This only includes ESPN+ content.

The Ocho requires a completely separate subscription that you can pay to me directly and I'll send you some VHS quality footage of YMCA pickup games.

Something said on the ten12 podcast, will all bb games be on espn+? Even if also carried on cable.

No. If it's on a linear ESPN network, it won't be on ESPN+. Also, all of Iowa State's non-national TV non-conference games are still on Cyclones.tv this year.

HOWEVER, if your TV provider supports ESPN3, all games are streamable with your TV provider log in. This is SEPARATE from ESPN+ which is its own standalone service.

I agree that there will be plenty of angry people, but not me. I'm just not interested in having to jump through hoops to stream and go the ESPN + route. If that is the way ISU and the Big Xii want to go. That's fine, but they are losing me for the games they show on that platform. On the positive side, I get the ACCN on my Direct TV and can watch plenty of quality basketball there when the Cyclones are on ESPN + and being seen by fewer people than now have access to them.

To clarify:

There is an app called ESPN. On this app, you can watch games (and shows) that are broadcast on ESPN+. You can also watch games from ESPN channels from your TV Provider. The two require SEPARATE logins within the SAME app.

To watch ESPN+ games, you need to subscribe to ESPN+. You can subscribe stand-alone or through a combo package with Hulu and Disney+. When you subscribe through the combo, you still log in through the app. There is no access to ESPN+ through the Hulu or Disney+ apps.

To watch games from regular ESPN channels in the app, you can log in with your TV provider (or your parents?).
