While I don't think Ernst would be starting or making a big impact on this team, I do think he is and will prove to be a better player than Carter.

Adam,

What is the explanation for keeping Carter over Ernst? Did they just misfire, or was there a bigger back story?

If he was good enough he'd still be here. Carter is better than Ernst and he still can't get minutes. The obsession of Brady Ernst blows my mind but he would have been at a JUCO if we didn't offer because we needed a practice body

Ernst is leading IHCC in pts and rebounds..Carter is not better than Ernst will be...no idea why we chased him away..big mistake. Hated the decision when it was done..

If Ernst was better than Carter he would be here. It's pretty simple stuff

Carter won't be here next season...We have prob 4..at least more ships to give out for next season..Landing Stokes would have been tremendous for future of our inside game but that sailed..

Do think Lard will be here but we dont really know how good he is..If he's decent than Young and Lard should provide a decent combo..

But first Prohm needs to fix the offense.

Lolz. Yeah, a guy averaging 12 points this year in JUCO ball is the solution to our problems.

Ernst as a freshman last season: 6'9, 215 pounds. This season he's listed at 6'10, 230 pounds for Indian Hills.

Solomon Young as a freshman this season: 6-foot-8, 240 pounds. We have "big and strong."
Cut Young! He's clearly not the solution to our problems either.

There's a huge gap between being an asset the program could use, particularly in the future, and the solution to our problems. Young, despite current modest numbers, is a player that can help us. Carter being here and riding the bench is not sufficient in evaluating Ernst's potential impact.

It's not complicated: we let Ernst go cuz he used his medical redshirt so could go juco and play two years there immediately. Carter would only get one if he went juco or transfer and sit out at another d1. He prolly knew if he did, he'd end up at a mid major so he prolly figured just stick it out here.

That being said, at this point the writing is on the wall for Carter, he's out the door at the end of the year. If not sooner. And call me crazy for saying this, but it wouldn't surprise me if we took Ernst back after the way he has been playing at Indian Hills.

I still think Ernst would be better than Holden - this year. What has Holden done this year except foul? How many times has Holden finished in traffic? Ernst may not be great, but the bar is low.

The bar is low. Edozie was a couple years too soon. Though, would Homan have been Homan under Fred or Prohm?

Why do we need hypothetical Ernst to be a big time contributor for us? Why can't he take up space, set picks, and make rebounds? That's what we need more than anything right now. Well besides team work and leadership...

This is a fair question. We let Ernst go in favor of Carter, when IMO Ernst had far more of the "Homan factor" in him. Edozie was probably a more fair comparison, but like you said, I would trade Holden for Edozie in a second. Hoden makes Edozie look skilled with the ball in his hands.

Lol ouch, but to this point I don't have much video evidence to dispute. I was definitely an Edozie lover. Fred's pro style rotation was always something I felt was an underutilization of the skill gap in college basketball, and has little respect for the usefulness of roles players on a team, specifically when talking from a defensive stand point.

Young will be a very good player before his career is over. Pretty good now. Young bigs tend to foul a lot. They have to learn how to use the strength without getting called for fouls. It will be fun to watch him develop. Much easier for freshman to play on the perimeter.
