Following Simpson's heel turn in recruiting last week makes me a little leery, but I guess that's as much good news as you could hope for without it actually being reported.

I am in no way a fan of Self, but I have heard just the opposite about Self. I spoke with someone (not a KU fan, but a BB guy) who was at a gathering where Self was. He said that when Self came in the room he had a rare charisma that made you feel like Self was talking exclusively to you. He worked the room and when he spoke to someone he always remembered their name no matter how long ago or how infrequently they had met and he remembered personal details about every person.

Recruiting against that is always going to be tough.

Man, basketball recruiting and the football program really have taken a toll on this fanbase. Really surprised by how many people think it could be KU.

I agree with this. I know it is a normalcy for us CFers to bash on Self. But in all reality, he has got to be one hell of a personality to be able to recruit and sway kids so often. I know it is Kansas, a blue blood who would get recruits with whoever they throw in at coach, but that doesn't mean self is not a great recruiter. As much as I hate Kansas and Self (when playing against him) but I respect the hell out of what he does as a coach year in and year out.

Self definitely has some charm. A lot of aw shucks perfectly blended into stern talk about his own team. He's always very complimentary to Fred, ISU and Hilton.

But if you watch him during a game, he's a complete ***. Always trying to intimidate the officials, constantly sending his assistants to harass officials and dropping more F bombs than Bill O'Brien. He's all class except on the court.
