Email service providers input

My email that I've had for years may have been perma ****** by my provider. Might have to go to a new provider and reestablish that email as my POC. What a pain in the ass that will be, likely at least 40 businesses and agencies without even getting into the personal contacts. It feels like someone has stolen the equivalent of a file folder full of important papers.

So looking at the ubiquitous gmail or similar. What do you peeps recommend? It's been so long with current provider that any experiences I have with others is crazy outdated.

Background: I can get into the acct but my prime email just generates an error and will not load. I can open and access two secondary accts, so weird. If these ******* really did lose my main acct I'm not just opening another email with them. Save the suggestions to change password, reboot, clear your cache, try another computer, try another browser, try your cell phone etc. Had to go through all of that on the phone with a tech before I could get her to push it over to security to try and find my emails. She was nice but really didn't know anymore about this than I did, maybe less so had to go through all of the stuff with her again. I get they are there to help people with simple stuff that the end user has ****** up so I was nice to her. She said security peeps would fix it by morning and she'd call me back. They did not and neither did she.

Not sure why anyone would use anything other than Gmail
Oh dear...the answer to that would land this thread in the cave...nonetheless I have succumbed to gmail as well.

In any case, one thing to watch out for, AT&T inbound email servers seem to be hyper-aggressive at blacklisting Microsoft outbound email servers. Anyone or any company that uses Office365 or other Microsoft email servers can be affected, which amounts to a bunch of people worldwide. This has been going on for quite some time now.

Microsoft has loads of outbound email servers, and if AT&T flags an outbound MS server, and someone who is sending you an email happens to get routed through one of those flagged MS servers, you will not get email from that person until AT&T takes that server off the blackalist, or that sender happens to get routed through another outbound MS server. Those senders have no control over which MS server gets used to send their emails. My wife's company and a non-profit I work with use Office365, and have had trouble with this.

If the email service you choose uses AT&T inbound servers, you might run into this, and miss some emails.

Exactly. Yeah sure, you're putting a lot of trust in Google which I don't necessarily like either but it's so easy and is available on any device and you never have to worry about copying over contacts or anything else when switching phones or laptops.

I get the evil that is the Google. Sort of hate it but set up an email today. Had to create a new Google acct since the one I have is tied to a Comcast email. And, of course, Comcast restored my emails a short time ago. I am sort of surprised, hell, I am actually shocked. The last time an online provider lost my **** it was just gone, Verizon and their photo backup. Switched to backing cell photo images to Google Photos. Now have to decide whether to migrate to gmail or not.

I hate depending on yuge entities that I sort of really dislike, Google, Amazon, etc. They make the old dislike of MicroSoft seem quaint!
 
Proton is a nice alternative vs. Gmail, privacy wise.

When I hear people talking about ‘email privacy’ I immediately assume that this is the email you give pornhub.

Contact your email 'administrator' directly. Don't accept anything less. Keep requesting next higher manager. Every email account is either in a standard file system or a database. Any provider worth a crap backs those up daily. ANY account and its associated data, doesn't just simply disappear. Have a lawyer contact them. There are laws to protect your information. Don't ***** foot around. Play hard ball. I had a consultancy for over 20 years for small businesses. I designed, built, and maintained email systems for my clients. Do as I suggest any you'll get all your emails back.

You might use a double email solution. It costs now, but I originally had yahoo email forwarding to gmail so I’d have copies at yahoo but only ever check gmail.

I use iCloud with me.com now.
