We can win because we always can win if:
We keep our emotions in check while playing hard (no penalties),
We play team football,
We slow their running game first thing in the game (bend don't break),
Our offense chews up some clock, and
Nebraska thinks too much about fumbling and other turnovers.

We can do these things.

We win a close one if:

The nebraska team that played Texas and NDSt shows up to Ames and the ISU team that played Tech and Texas is there to greet them.

anything else and I think the huskers win.

If Martinez is healthy... I'm afraid ISU is in for a VERY long day. I'm talking Utah and OU bad.

We will need a lot of mistakes again this year by Nebraska to win.

We had trouble stopping Kansas NO way we're stopping the Huskers.

We did? What the hell game were you watching? Two fumbles, 1 on our own 20 and we give up 3 points? Then they score a td on our 3rd team d?

Regardless of the score on the field, ISU fans win because we don't have to get in our cars and drive back across the Missouri River to Nebraska.

Oh heck, I'll play. Nebraska's emotion about their "freakish" loss last year makes them play out of control. When ISU refuses to curl up and die "1987-style" in the first half, their rage slowly turns to fear as they realize that we didn't have time to make it to the store and pick out a nice going away present for their impending trip to the Big 10 so we just decided to give them an a**-kicking and a gift certificate for $1 off a kid's meal at Hickory Park.

ISU 31, NU 24. Hey, it COULD happen.

At what point do we stop considering Texas "underachievers" and start considering them as simply not all that good of a team. They have lost three games in their own stadium. The Nebraska win is their only win that impresses at all, and there was a lot of emotion involved in that. UCLA beat them in Austin and UCLA is not good. Its the first win ever against them, but how impressive was it actually?

Texas Tech is in last place in their division and Kansas is just not a good team.

It could be argued that, in reality, ISU's most impressive win could be the one over Northern Illinois, who is now 5-0 in the MAC and who's only other loss is to a better than expected Illinois. I'm not necessarily saying that it is more impressive than Texas, but it may not be far away. Texas has the name brand cache, but how good of a team are they actually?

So the clearly good teams that ISU has played are:

Iowa: L 35-7
Utah: L 68-27
OU: L 52-0

Mediocre teams:

Northern Illinois: W 27-10
Kansas St.: L 27-20
Texas Tech: W 52-38
Texas: W 28-21

Bad teams

UNI: W 27-0
Kansas: W 28-16

So ISU is VERY 0-3 against the clearly good teams, 3-1 against the mediocre teams, and 2-0 against the bad teams.

The next question is what category is Nebraska in? Clearly good or mediocre?

I vote that they are clearly a good team... on a roll... with revenge on their minds. 307 yards against Mizzou?? Wow!

Nebraska 51 ISU 17

I believe he meant that ISU had trouble stopping Kansas' running game.
Quigley and Sims averaged 4.05 yards per carry against ISU. Helu averaged ELEVEN yards per carry against Mizzou. What is he going to do to ISU? I'm guessing better than 4.05 ypc.

Rhoads is 11-0 when the other team scores 24 or less, 1-10 when they score more.
I see a trend here. Can we keep them to the 24 number?

If we're gonna win this, it'll be because our defense neutralizes Martinez. My kool-aid score is

ISU -16 (one touchdown and three field goals)
Nebraka - 14

Im not sure about the field goals. Grant needs to get out and practice a bit more.

Man, Roy Helu Jr. Scares the crap out of me. 307 yards against Mizzou!?! A Nebraska record! Thats phenomenal. Mizzou has a good defense too.

How in the world are we giong to be able to stop these guys? Answer: we won't. We just need to make big plays and capitalize on some of their mistakes and take advantage of our limited opportunities.

That means: no dropped passes. Forced fumbles-- and recoveries! Interceptions when they decide to pass.

Its going to take one heck of a team effort to get this done. Im just not sure its possible. Nebraska is a really, really good football team.

Just remember people, no one has ever pulled an upset off by saying I don't think I can win.

I bet all you naysayers never thought we would beat Nebraska last year in Lincoln, or beat Texas this year.

Be positive

Call it an attitude, call it mojo or it call it whatever you want but this team is special. Its not the same team that faced utah and the sooners. The offensive and defensive lines have made nice strides the past two weeks. If we get a healthy Lammak back, I like our chances. Screw Nebraska. It would be pretty sweet to have scoreboard in Lincoln and Ames. Go Clones.

It is possible. We'll just have to do it like CPR said last year, as a team.
